About

Los Angeles post-grunge outfit Badflower have gained a meaningful reputation for hard-hitting and melodic rock anthems covering themes around mental health and addiction. Comprising singer/guitarist Josh Katz, guitarist Joey Morrow, bassist Alex Espiritu, and drummer Anthony Sonetti, Badflower's tendency to address human vulnerability makes them a powerful example of how the hard rock genre has evolved in the 21st Century.

Formed in Northridge, California, in 2008, Badflower started out under the name the Cartunes with Katz and Morrow meeting in music school. They soon changed their name and recruited Espiritu and Sonetti to round out the lineup. After gigging around Los Angeles, Badflower found the attention of former NSYNC member Lance Bass, who plugged them on his SiriusXM radio show.

In 2013, Badflower released their debut EP, About A Girl. In 2016, Badflower released their second EP, Temper, via Hundred Handed Inc. The EP featured the single "Animal." In 2018, Badflower had a hit single with "Ghost," which unflinchingly discussed subjects like depression and self-harm.

"Ghost" found a significant audience and peaked at No. 11 on Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. "Ghost" was also certified Gold by the RIAA. "I was depressed and thinking about self-harm. So I just wrote it," Katz told Loudwire about "Ghost." "I played out the whole scenario and put it into a song because that's what writers do, I suppose. I didn't even know if it was gonna go on the album. I was sorta hesitant to even show it to the rest of my band, but everyone heard it and loved it."

In 2017, Badflower hit the road on the Rock 'N' Roll Now tour alongside Bleeker, Beware Of Darkness and Red Sun Rising. The same year, they began work on their debut studio album, 2019's OK, I'm Sick, which Loudwire named one of the 50 best rock albums of that year. In 2020, Badflower released "30" on Katz's 30th birthday.

Badflower followed up their debut with 2021's This Is How The World Ends, which featured the singles "Family," "Don't Hate Me," "Fukboi," and "Johnny Wants To Fight." Loudwire ranked This Is How The World Ends as the 38th best rock/metal album of 2021. Catch Badflower on tour when they come to a city near you.

    Best Opening Band I've seen

    by Z. C. on 2023-08-14

I saw Badflower open for AWOLNATION in San Francisco last year, and they put on such an incredible live performance. They were so good that during intermission, my friend went back into the lobby to buy their merch

Went to an incubus concert at the OLG FALLSVIEW and they were opening for them. I was blown away by the talent, tenacity and musicality of the band. They did an AMAZING job as an opener and hyped the crowd up for incubus. They earned themselves a fan yesterday night. I’ll go to their next concert for sure! Keep coming back to Canada guys! You rock.

    immeasurable love for badflower

    by Rozie! on 2022-05-07

Originally saw Badflower at their first opening show in Toronto at RBC Echo Beach in 2019 and have been a fan since early spring of that year. Just saw them perform at The Axis Club in Toronto for their very first headline tour and cannot express how phenomenal their performance and progress has been. Each and every member of the band employs the grooviest and most relatable stage performance and just REALLY brings the thrill to the show. Their energy is unmatched, their sets are dynamic, Josh Katz's voice is incredible every single time and I LOVE that he really makes an effort to interact with his audience. Alex on the bass is a gem, seems like the sweetest, was just hanging out upstairs and then chatted up the opener on GA floor at the show last night like it was no biggie and DAMN is he ever good on his guitar, haha! love the energy this band brings to the table and the love they share with their fans every step of the way. Looking forward to supporting them at every other show I can attend and sooo stoked for new music! If they knew the impact their music has had on my life, I love them so much I would recommend their music or their shows to anyone and wish them all the success in their musical endeavours! Rock on, Badflower!

Best band I’ve seen in many years.

    by Laz on 2021-08-18

I took my son to a Shinedown concert at Echo Beach in Toronto a few years back. Bad Flower was the supporting act. I couldn’t get over how incredibly good this band was. Bad Flower has become my new favourite band and I’ve seen at least 400 concerts! Their new release is highly addictive as is their debut. Take my word for it. This band is a must see! You will NOT be disappointed friends:)
