About

Ticket buyers will likely never guess that Santa Cruz-born Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, grew up influenced by rock heavyweights like Megadeth and Metallica and grunge pioneers Nirvana. An interest in ambient acts like Orbital may be less surprising. The electronic music guru—both a DJ and a producer—now delivers electrifying, bass-heavy concerts (hence the name) that typically feature creative remixed tributes like "Seek and Destroy (Bassnectar Remix)" alongside laser light shows that awe tour and festival attendees. Many Bassnectar creations also meld socio-political statements from personalities like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Noam Chomsky into the electronic grooves.

Though he's made more than  a dozen free downloadable mixtapes available at his website since 1999, Bassnectar has also unleashed several full-length albums, including a couple more recent releases on his own label, Amorphous Music. The 2012 release "Vava Voom" features a collaboration with Lupe Fiasco on the title track, as well as "Pennywise Tribute," a remix of Pennywise's own single, "Bro Hymn (Tribute)."

The line to get into the concert was very long and then the coat check line, well forget about it because that line was longer than the addmission line! my tickets were in the will call line and they gave us 2 extra tickets than what I had purchased, so hopefully i dont get charged for those because no one used them!!

    All ages

by Mioya on 2011-11-21PNE Forum - Vancouver

The show was alright. Because it was all ages. There was a lot more precautions involved. Including fencing off areas like infront of the speakers so kids don't climb on them. This was the first Bassnectar concert I've been too that had a fence infront of the speaker. I was disappointed. But Bassnectar himself was very good. Couldn't tell without the hug of bass around me for sure though.

    Lorin never disappoints.

by Leeser on 2011-11-21PNE Forum - Vancouver

As always, any show that Bassnectar throws is nothing short of a raucous good party, bringing together people for our one passion: having one helluva time together on the dance floor. Truly one of the best artists to go see. Ever. The only thing I didn't like was from the PNE Forum itself, not from any of the artists. I understand a need for security, but they took my glow bracelets at the door, and wouldn't tell me why. I later saw that they were selling them at the concessions. I felt like it wasn't any kind of safety or security measure, but just a moneygrab, and along with it a fun-ruiner. Don't get me wrong, I still had one of the best experiences of my life sans glowsticks, but c'mon, why ya gotta be harshin' on ma glow bracelets?

Bassnectar has incredible stage presence, great energy!! This was my first dub-step show and I danced through the whole thing. I went to see Bonobo but didn't end up seeing their set, it sounded identical to album tracks. Other than the overwhelming amount of bad booty shorts and fuzzy boots this show was so much fun and I would definitely see him again!
