This was one of the best show i have attended it was amazingly awesome
The concert was pretty good. The opener comedian was fantastic. He even started on time. There was a really great DJ who got things warmed up and everybody was dancing. Then Beres, the skinny little guy, came out and yes he can sing, but in between songs he kept talking and wouldn't have the mic close enough so you couldn't hear him. He promoted love and family and appreciation of audience attending but when his roadie brought him a water bottle instead of rum he raised his arm as if to hit him. Seemed unusual. Hard to tell if he was joking because the roadie actually moved to defend himself. Probably joking but still seemed out of place. It was very difficult to hear him speaking and his accent is thick in the first place. But overall not a bad show. Great dancing and everybody sang along. A mixed review on my part.
Such a terrific artist at an equally terrific venue. Sound was incredible, crowd was great and Beres was on point. Would definitely go back to Massey for another concert!
I`ve wanted to see Beres live for years. I know reggae concerts are often not on schedule BUT 2.5 hours late is a bit too much. I could understand it happening in another type of venue but at a casino theatre with reserved seating. Everyone at our table was upset. We were so tired that we left before it ended. I still don`t know what time the show finished. Beres was good on stage, his voice was what I hoped for. I heard the songs I wished for. By 2am I just wanted to go home. Beres gave a good show.
I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE SHOW. BERES DID HIS THING AND THE BAND WAS AWESOME. THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME SEEING HIM IN CONCERT SO I'M NOT ABLE TO COMPARE IT WITH PASS SHOWS, HE DEFINITELY DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
This was a very professional organized event. I never went to a "sit down" reggea concert before, and this wasn't. EVERYBODY was up dancing. The music was so good there was not a statue at all! Culture was great and it was nice to see the son pay respect to his late father, and amazing artist Joseph Hill. Another bonus was Inner Circle. It was great from start to finish
Beres Hammond's voice is incredibly strong. He was quite engaging with the audience and had us dancing the entire time. Inner Circle wa high energy and very entertaining Kulture was also fun.
The show started late and the promoters rushed the local performers off the stage too quickly. Other than that the show was great!
Thanks guys. The show, crowd, stage, lighting etc were top deck. As usual, Bres did not disappoint and his performance was second to none ie. top class. I wish he had stayed longer on stage but this does not mean he under- stayed. The supporting acts were great as well. Good clean old school and a very few new school selections made the DJ special. My only discomfort was the heat within. It was a little warm inside. Thanks again guys for a GREAT show and look forward for more, soon.
Great night had by all..... The show was awesome like all his others. I wish he would play here every six months!!!!
The event on August 14, 2010 at the Sound Academy with Beres Hammond was very inspiring. He has soulful raspy voice and amazing gift to connect with the audience.
Beres sang for hours, he was incredible! energetic and powerful!
Well, I have been attending shows bothe locally and internationally and this show was one of the best so far. From the opening act to the main act. One could only conclude how well organized it was. Nontheless i wonder how one has never read anything journalistic review of this event or any other reggae event for that matter. The conclusion is simply, reggae music is protest music with messages highlighting the king of injustices that are rife in todays world. Therefore mainstream media will not wrote about it.
I was so looking forward to seeing Beres Hammond on Aug 17 I even booked the next day off. It was a good thing I did because Beres did not hit the stage until midnight. We saw and heard absouletly every other member of his band play a set including some DJ who played 2 sets!! All I wanted to hear was Beres. When he did hit the stage it was awesome, he even played my favorite song, People will Talk". He did play until 2:00 AM and it was good to see him in person but honestly I think I will stick with his cd's as Beres in concert left alot to be desired.
Good show, but the bass was unnecessarily loud, so much that it took that gentleness of the reggae away, and turned the show into hip hop. I wanted to hear Hammond, the soft gentleness of his voice, but the bass steamrolled his voice. Was this Hammond or Commodore's choice I am not sure, however, the bass was equally choking in what Commodore Ballroom played until the show started, so I should perhaps blame the Ballroom.
Quite easily the best reggae concert I've ever been to. Do not miss this experience! Excellent value for money compared to other concerts!
The DJ I could do without! No connection to the audience.. Beres is Beres what more can one say. But his backup vocalist and the solo female singer were superb. Sound man was a little heavy on the bass. Worst thing about the event was the Commodore itself as a venue. The doors open at 8:00 however the mainliner doesn't appear to after 12 :00. Lets milk the audience for food and drink An event that should get 4 stars only gets 3 becasue of teh venus and one bad act.
This man knows how to perform. The younger artists, although they are a pleasure to see, could learn a thing or two from this man. He is truly a living legend. Between the live instruments, and the heart and soul you can see he puts into every song, this show was by far the best i have ever seen. You walk away feeling like your money was well spent and, I for one, would see him again and again!!
It was the end of a summer of concerts. I've seen everything from Femi Kuti to Xavier Rudd and The constentines. I've worked my way through venues in Toronto, Hamilton, Brantford, Ottawa and Montreal. Beres was the last act... And what an Encore it was! There was a line up of 4 other Jamaican artists, room to dance, and food to fill our bellies with. Loved every minute of it! His voice is as beautiful as you can imagine! GREAT GREAT GREAT JOB!!!!!
Tickets said show starts at 9pm, Beres went on at 1 am, we were entertained by 3 other acts. Only one was advertised to open, the other two were not necessary as it was a Thursday night and had to drive back to Toronto for work the next morning. Bere was worth the wait, the crowd enjoyed him and forgot about how late it really was.
