Cathartic, Triumphant, Joyful, and Fun
by Richard on 2025-10-15Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5I'd waited a long time for this, and no doubt many others had too.
Right from entering the venue there was a sense of togetherness - of community. Sadly often missing in our day to day lives in these divisive times.
The DJ set was a great warm up, the montage was perfect in so many ways. Bowie an inspired choice.
Then the show itself.
I hadn't really considering just how damn complex these songs I know so well would be to pull off live. The glorious mashing of rhythms, almost mantra-like lyrics, all the little "oh they played that bit"moments. It really was everything I'd hoped for and more.
The crowd was impeccable and knew our role, cheer, chant, sing, and bear witness. There were tears around me during Dry the Rain, and how could there not be?
Leaving the venue there was joy, the collective sense of having witnessed something wonderful, an experience we'd all share and take back into our corners of the world.
Thank you John, Richard, Robin, and Steve. You've given me the wonderful opportunity to try and explain your music, and that experience to anyone who will listen - and probably a few that won't :)
