Billy Flat
by MusicalFan61 on 2013-01-08National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5I had been looking forward to this show for a long time but found this performance lacking. The energy from the cast just wasn't there and there was no excitement about anyone's performance on stage. I felt that Billy yelled all his lines and the one time I expected to be blown away was when he danced for the National Ballet School. It all seemed too controlled instead of dancing with abandon. This was his "chance". There were many times in the show where there were awkward silences and pauses for no reason, almost like a local production where people are trying to remember their lines . I didn't expect that from a professional touring show. I felt like the cast just wanted it to be over. I grew up close to where this show is set. In fact my Dad went to the Chorrister School at Durham Cathedral so I understood the language and the politics of the time. That made it entertaining for me but I expected to be blown away with the music and dance as well. I was disappointed and came away saddened instead of feeling triumph in Billy's accomplishment. Hope that other performances were and will be better. It is a high ticket price to pay.
