The show was outstanding! Nicely paced and held our attention! The singing and dancing were phenomenal and the story was captivating and thought provoking. We would definitely go see it again!
Absolutely fantastic show! The boy who played Billy Elliott was fabulous and the whole cast had so much energy and talent! A truly wonderful musical!
Lots of laughs. The kid who played Billy did a great job. I really enjoyed myself.
The story is a excellent and the performance and music very good. An enjoyable night out for sure. The story is slow in the beginning but certainly does pick-up later.
The acting was very good and the dancing was great and I thought that "Billy" was extremely good but I did not enjoy all the swearing especially when the Lord's name was taken in vain. I dislike it when I see kids swearing in movies and to me it was just as bad to see it on stage. There were a lot of young people at the show and that doesn't teach our children good manners for sure. This show had been recommended to me by a friend but I must say had I known it was going to be like it was, I wouldn't have spent the money especially when it took so long to save it up.
The stage performances were very good and the stage production was virtually flawless. Just don't expect to be blown away by the dancing of the Billy Elliot character. Great story and a relevant to modern-day union fights.
This was a good and entertaining show with some moments of humour in an otherwise dour scenario. The cast was excellent in all performance aspects. It was at times somewhat difficult to relate to the imagery and themes but the actors pulled it together. The music was overall excellent. Now for the lows: harsh language which is the reality of the time in Britain but not necessary for this play to use. There were many children in the audience as I suspect are to be found and most performances. The foul language was unnecessary and inappropriate; the messages could have been well provided with everyday British language. Some have complained about smoking but it is certain that the cigarettes were not real however the message of smoking as a pleasure was left with impressionable children. The general theme that Maggie Thatcher was a bad Prime Minister is a leftist viewpoint that is over scripted and overplayed.
Dynamic cast; very enjoyable evening of entertainment.
The dancing was amazing! Great intertwining of storylines through choreography. Music definitely had the Elton John touch...however their aren't any "memorable" tunes ringing in my head. Heard some gasps over the swearing and the smoking but hopefully most people do some research before attending, as I think both were indicative of when and where the story takes place. Having said that I could have prepared my 11-yr old a little better as some of the jokes etc needed explaining during the play.
This was my third viewing of Billy Elliot over the past three years. I love it more each time I see it! The two stories in the play send a message to all ages in such a beautiful and musical way. I took my daughter and10 year old grand-daughter. I would recommend it to old and young alike.
I found it a little hard to understand the dialect. The performers were excellent dancers.
What a talented bunch of kids (and adults). There were lots of laughs and it stayed true to the movie. Great job, great music, fabulous dancing. You will love the show.
Performance was fabulous - the venue was equally fabulous. What talented actors and Billy was just amazing. My husband and I really enjoyed the musical and were taken with the beauty of the Ford Oriental Theatre. A must see when in Chicago!
Billy Elliot features a very young star supported by superb performers who managed to realistically portayed a passionate dance teacher, a confused grandmother, a poltical activist brother and a coal mining father. The group dance numbers ranged from riot police to larger than life dancers, paper mache characters depicting Margaret Thatcher, or miners in overalls. The story moved quickly. The gentle balance of comedy with serious working class struggles was also very appealing.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Billy Elliot at the Ford Theatre in Chicago last Thursday. I had seen it in London in 2007 but we didn't have such good seats at that show. This time around we had great seats. It was good 3 years ago and it was just as good this time. The American actors had the north eastern English accent down to a T. They did very well. The acting was brilliant as well as the singing and dancing. It's a heartwarming story and is told extremely well by this group of actors. It's gritty and real. I grew up in the north east of England in the 80's so I know. The production I saw last Thursday had less swearing in than the London production. We were told this was because they are preparing to take the show through middle America so they had to tone it down. If this is true, it's a bit of a shame that people can't handle it. The amount of swearing on tv and what's on the internet is far worse. Overall it is a magnificent show.
We just loved it! Very entertaining, and also moving. Everyone was fantastic. Can't wait to see it again in Toronto
Beautiful theatre, lovely story and incredibly talented performers - highly recommended!
Show was good enough entertainment.I wouldn't spend the extra money on premium seating again as it didn't make much of a difference the way things were set up in this particular theater. There were a few scenes where the cast smoked cigarettes and the smoke bothered my pregnant daughter. The F word was used quite a bit . There were children aged 7 to 10 in seats in front of us that kept saying they did not understand what was going on.The dancing was very good and the staging and crops were excellent.
This musical was action packed, the music was fantastic, the characters were well played, the dancing superb...We loved this musical very much and would recommend!!!
