Black Dub - diggin the dirty sound

by SpitfireSteve on 2011-07-09The Opera House - Toronto

Black Dub was dirty & love worthy. I could rave on Trixie's rippin pipes- the humble phenom pours her guts into every word, note & every authentic hesitation. Girl's got a hurt soul, and she's only 23. But the entire show was right. So much talent onstage. So much humility- commitment to a project, a sound, an audience. Brian Blade was percussive perfection; no self-indulgence; just in-context solo runs that left us gaping. Lanois was the quarterback, loving the audience. As guitarist, he's unparalleled, crossing timelines & geography. Sounds of Blues Bar or Bayou, somehow became OUR sound, here & now at the Opera House. We wanted music thats real. A little dirty. Life-Felt, like music's roots. BD gave us new, real sounds to tap our love, loss, passion. Reminds you why blues, soul & rock exist.

Great Concert! Lousy Audience and Venue

by Danfan707 on 2011-07-07The Opera House - Toronto

The musicians were amazing. Dan is one of the truly great musicians of our time and he's put together an amazing band with amazing new songs. The show was great! 4 stars and not 5 because the venue was terrible. The Opera House is a lousy venue and the audience was full of people talking and not paying attention to the music during the quieter parts. An artist of this caliber deserves to have absolute quiet when performing. The opening act was utterly ruined due to the typical Toronto bar audience talking over the performance. Toronto is famous for its rude audiences so this isn't surprising.

    Black Dub is amazing live!

by kshell on 2011-07-07The Opera House - Toronto

This band knows their stuff, and it shows. The first thing you notice is Trixie's hauntingly powerful voice, followed by the talent of the musicians in this band. Their live sound can't be compared to the album, as it is just so breathtaking live. The sound was also perfect, despite the use of two drum kits. See this band in europe when they go there shortly if you can. it is well worth it! Lanois performs his old classics as well live and they were just as good as before.

    Front and centre

by Spd68 on 2011-07-07The Opera House - Toronto

Down from Kingston, got in the line @ 6pm and about five minutes later Daniel Lanois came by and talked to the other guys in the line. I got to shake his hand and said "Hi". I got front and centre and stayed there for the whole show. Daniel played so hard his thumb started to bleed. Highlights were The Maker and Ring the Alarm, the last one got everyone I could see jumping and the whole band looked very excited with how they pulled that one off. Smiling Brian Blade was amazing on drums. Trixie's voice was powerful and she seems modest about her talent. An amazing show.

    Black Dub is fantastic

by Brainology on 2011-07-07The Opera House - Toronto

Black Dub at Opera House was simply superb. Great venue, superb group. How live music should be heard, raw, spontaneous, easy going. Concert presented the best of Daniel's and Trixie's singing. Brian Blade was amazing on drums. I'm afraid I will disappointed in going to see U2 in a few days at the Rogers center!
