    Stop and Go

by AJM60 on 2012-06-12Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I found it extremely disconcerting that the two leads needed to stop and be applauded for every two minutes they danced.

    Lovely!

by JaneP on 2012-06-12Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Very nice performance of Swan Lake, however, the whole thing seemed disjointed due to the fact that after each dance sequence, the dancers came to the front of the stage to take a bow and almost DEMAND adulation!! The whole performance could have been about 20 minutes shorter had they not stopped so often to take a bow. People around me were getting quite frustrated with this and the couple behind me actually exclaimed "oh, come on!!"

    Amazing!

by RegP on 2012-06-12Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Amazing music, amazing professionalism of all performers, from the leading stars to the corps de ballet dancers! With so many dancers on the floor (at some scenes over 30) you almost don't hear the sound of them landing, they are like snowflakes, weightless! Great decorations and costumes. Having a real orchestra adds a lot to the whole impression.

    Excellent performance!

by Rogalik on 2012-06-12Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I am a big ballet fan, and of course I couldn't have missed this event. It was slightly modified, shortened version of the classical ballet "Swan Lake" which was greatly executed. I loved attention to details, the dancers were quite synchronized in the movements, and you could also the Russian discipline. I have to say the quality of Russian ballet started deteriorating, but I am happy to say Bolshoi is an exception. If you want to see the results of training done in Russian ballet school, it is worth seeing this performance.

    Bolshoi is Great !

by Taguhi on 2012-06-12Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Bolshoi means great in Russian. Indeed, the show was great! I had little doubts of whether to go or not - last year we have seen 'the Swan Lake' by Mariinka, the competior of Bolshoi from St. Petersburg. We wished Bolshoi would have bring some other balley, not the Swan Lake. However, my doubts dissapeared with the first sounds of music...It was a completely different performance. Yes, the music was the same - you can't change Mr. Chaikovsky. But instead of a fairy tale, we saw a tragedy - how a simple mistake in your life can change everything! The young dancers were amazing, extremely professional and expressive! The decorations, the costumes - everything was in the same style... I had a feeling of a miracle. Yes, last year Mariinka was great (I am a Moscovite by birth, so in this two hunderd year rivalship between St. Pete and Moscow, I am on the Moscow side), but Bolshoi was different and amazing! I got so much positive energy from this balley, that for the next two-three days I was simply 'flying' - I had a feeling that I could do everything. By the way, if you are in Moscow, you can rarely have a chance to see the same dancers - the best ones are usually performing somewhere abroad...

The Bolshoi was an absolutely spectacular show. The dancers were all incredibly talented and made even the most challenging moves look effortless and beautiful. Our seats were at the front of the balcony and I think they were probably the best seats in the house: close enough to get a clear view and high enough to get the full effect of the ensemble. The orchestra did a masterful job, the costumes were gorgeous and the whole event was just magical. Best performance of Swan Lake I have ever seen.

I have seen many performances of "Swan Lake" by other ballet companies , but this one was by far the very best - excellent choreograpy, beautiful costumes & set designs. And the perfection is truly outstanding - not a finger or head is out of place -

    Bolshoi - Swan Lake- wow

by Ira1 on 2012-06-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The dancing was sublime - what technique. The audience was awed by the danceur playing the court jester. He was fantastic and the crowd went wild. The choreography seems to have short-changed the prince - he had less than the usual opportunities to show his talent. He paled by comparison to the jester; perhaps he did not have enough "solos" to show what he is capable of.

Anything else just pales in comparison.

by Squirs on 2012-06-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Unbelievable performance. The highest possible level of choreography, masterfully danced. It seems that performers defied the laws of gravity at times. It was a truly memorable spectacle never before experienced. Ballet can be amazing, and it comes from the guy who is not a particular fan of this genre.
