BOMFEST! Tickets

I have been to quite a few different festivals in Edmonton, and this one definitely impressed me. For the little space they had and what they were trying to create in a district that has been more than undesirable, they pulled off a great show. Mind you….. The pavement tarmac made it almost unbearable during sunset hours. My partner and I were able to find refuge from the sun under a table that was in the lounge area that was actually a gigantic wireless charger for your devices which was pretty cool, but some more lawn chairs and umbrellas would have been nice too. Also, to have the main stage as dub step and the second stage as house was a HUGE fail. By the time the headliners came on for the dubstep stage, the house stage was muted out. I watched the house DJ’s squeezing their headphone on their heads just to try and hear their own music. I stood by the speaker and couldn’t hear a thing. Felt so bad for those DJ’s. What a waste of time for them. I had a feeling that would happen when I learned it was house AND dubstep. All in al though, staff were great, toiletries were clean, they had a decent smoke pit area and some awesome venues. I was quite impressed with what they created in this unusual space. Unusual being that it was LITERALLY across the street from the Bissel Center (the homeless shelter downtown) that was super odd to me.

I had an amazing time at Bomfest. They had an amazing line up of artists including Timmy Trumpet and Black Tiger Sex Machine.

I bought my one day ticket with excitement as I eagerly awaited headbanging my face off at the new venue; ice district downtown. Saturday rolls around, me and the squad are looking like certified 10s. We get through entry no issues, and then do a quick lap of the venue to get familiar with surroundings before things really get poppin. What i found was the second smallest outdoor rave venue ive seen, only one to beat it is union halls outdoor block partys. Its far smaller than what bomfest used to be, with what id call 1.5 stages due to the overlap of sound. The portapottys were directly in the sun (inside was about 50°C). My reccomendation; get bomfest back to the expo center. Way better venue, more space to dance and mingle, more ways to stay cool in the summer heat, better sound, better location honestly (imagine these poor downtown residents being forced to listen to dubstep for 16 hours in 2 days). Just goes to show newer is not always better. Thanks for reading my review, please make bomfest great again!

Water is an important part of a music festival, as dehydration is a big health risk. There was no effort to give attendees an alternative or fill up the water station. On a sunny day at 27 degrees, I think this was unacceptable, and there should have been at least 2 stations to fill your water bottle.

I'm assuming the absolute gigabrain who decided to put a weekend edm show in an unshaded parking lot was the same genius to charge $5.50 for water bottles. Nothing screams fun like an EDM show that ends at 10pm too! That's before sunset so the expensive light systems got to look really bland! :)) Definitely not doing this again next year.

I really like the tented area with fake grass I think that was such a smart idea due to it being outdoors and the heat, that being said I do wish there was more smaller stage area aside from the main and the “chill” zone. I wish the second day had a mix of style of sets, I love harder style but I wished there was a mix of like house with hard style like last year per day. I loved the amount of bar set ups there were and I loved how there was lots of medi staff walking around vibing and checking on people, overall it was still an amazing experience

They ran out of water before the last act ended on day 2. Visuals got lost on how small the screen on stage was and it was too light out to see many of the visuals. The medical staff walking around with spray bottles were lifesavers though they were amazing.

It was fun and good. Only thing is they should’ve sent out an email about things you can’t bring. Especially if it’s something not obvious like lipgloss, lip liner, lash glue, and lipsticks. They threw away my Mac lipstick, Dior lipgloss, and a few other products. That doesn’t make sense to me and is totally so disrespectful and inconsiderate.It’s expensive to replace and obvs I’m already there how can I go back to my place or car to drop it off. Do better.
