About

From stoner-boy to country-boy, blue-boy to a golden-voiced-man, Boy Golden has embodied them all. Now, as our guide, Boy Golden leads us through this next experience with kindness and humour, straight down Highway 5 and headlong into For Eden.

Ten stories told from his heart, his dreams and his real life, For Eden is about searching for things -- like dreams, love and better versions of himself, all wrapped up in some idea of a perfect place, be it real or imagined. But Paradise isn't an outer realm; it's the peace Boy Golden's found within.

Since his debut, Church of Better Daze (2020), Boy Golden has been immersed in the journey: one where he's traveled inward towards himself and the other traversing the observable world. Touring for hundreds of days, spending time at home in the studio alone or with friends, Boy Golden has been writing, writing, writing. From the lyrics, to the music, to the accompanying behind the scenes stories and newsletters, Boy Golden's honesty and clarity are magnificent. At times they magnify small wells of sadness, bringing forth the tears; other times they widen smiles, decimate guilt and fear, and others still, his songwriting eases the boundaries between folk, bluegrass, Americana and pop music.

A compass and a lighthouse, a roadmap and a set of postcards, For Eden forms a neat collection of experiences, remembered with tenderness and beauty. It serves as a travel companion for others on their respective journeys. It's nice to have someone along for the ride -- and someone waiting for you at home.

If home is where Boy Golden's heart is, be it in the big city, tiny town, on the road or on a record, For Eden beats solidly, passionately, emphatically for a life and for love in the moments we have.

  • Concert Amazing, leg room not so much.

Concert was amazing. Luv Boy Golden. Wonderful surprise to hear some tunes from William Prince. Only criticism is the amount of leg room and cost of a can of beer. My knees were sore afterwords.

We really enjoyed the music performed by Boy Golden, his band as well as the local artists like Fontine who accompanied him. Surprise guest appearance by William Prince was a bonus. We were sitting in section J in the balcony and I would like to point out that though the music came out loud and clear, we often had trouble making out the lyrics. Sound wasn’t great up there.

  • WOW!! - talent, creativity & heart

by Bunny on 2023-11-28Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We were away from Folk Fest this year so missed the phenom that is Boy Golden - so knew we had to see them when we heard they were coming to the Burt. Gobsmacked! The creativity and musical talent were unbelievable. Kris Ulrich and Fontine as openers were amazing, and stunning full band sets. The songs were compelling, and a little quirky from time to time - just the perfect blend of musicianship and storytelling. Besides enjoying the music, the most compelling moment was the conversation between Boy Golden and an audience member who looked to be not doing well. In the midst of a full crowd on the main floor, first balcony and second balcony - and in midst of a next song - Boy Golden stopped the music, and checked in on the person. A quiet, kind and personal moment like one I have never seen between a musician and an audience member. And then the amazing music resumed. I'm a fan and will DEFINITELY be back to enjoy the immense talent and heart that is Boy Golden!

OK, we weren't there. Had COVID, so gave our tickets to friends. Have seen Boy Golden a few times in a few different combinations...always stellar; I can't imagine they weren't this time too. Our friends said they were great! Our friends also left at the intermission as the whole thing had become a shit-show to use their words: almost no masking, throngs of folks packed together, basically no COVID precautions what-so-ever, which is still very uncomfortable for many folks. Also said venue was unprepared for such a large crowd; very long line ups for bar and washrooms. Based on this and my experience with Sarah Harmer a little while ago, I do not plan to use my Frazey Ford tickets this coming Monday. TicketMaster could make life easier for folks by making Will Call tickets transferrable up to 24 hours before show time.
