Tons of talent!
by Bluesella on 2010-04-14TCU Place - SaskatoonLast night we heard 2.5 hours of solid music. The evening started with Johnny Lang. If you know this performer you know he has an incredible voice and wicked guitar playing abilities. He performed a lot of his newer songs and only a few from the first two albums. 'Loved his presence and passion! Throughout the night though, I felt the guitars were a little too loud for his vocals. The mix was a little too muddy for my liking and I had difficulty making out his words. His rendition of Lie To Me was very cool! His band was top notch and the supporting vocalist had beautiful, powerful pipes! Buddy Guy was incredible! This was my first time seeing him live. I have many of his albums but when you see him in person, his songs take on a life of their own. He was charming and funny! He established a rapport with the audience right off the start. His signature guitar sound was front and center and he sang with such passion. Playing music is like breathing to this man. He gave us a little history of the blues by sharing playing styles of other blues performers like Hendrix and Cream. He walked about the audience playing and singing face to face with people. He encouraged the audiences to sing parts of songs. His new song Skin Deep is beautiful. What I liked about his overall performance was the change in dynamics throughout the set. The band was tight and his other guitarist very talented. What a wonderful rainy night for the blues!
