    Tons of talent!

by Bluesella on 2010-04-14TCU Place - Saskatoon

Last night we heard 2.5 hours of solid music. The evening started with Johnny Lang. If you know this performer you know he has an incredible voice and wicked guitar playing abilities. He performed a lot of his newer songs and only a few from the first two albums. 'Loved his presence and passion! Throughout the night though, I felt the guitars were a little too loud for his vocals. The mix was a little too muddy for my liking and I had difficulty making out his words. His rendition of Lie To Me was very cool! His band was top notch and the supporting vocalist had beautiful, powerful pipes! Buddy Guy was incredible! This was my first time seeing him live. I have many of his albums but when you see him in person, his songs take on a life of their own. He was charming and funny! He established a rapport with the audience right off the start. His signature guitar sound was front and center and he sang with such passion. Playing music is like breathing to this man. He gave us a little history of the blues by sharing playing styles of other blues performers like Hendrix and Cream. He walked about the audience playing and singing face to face with people. He encouraged the audiences to sing parts of songs. His new song Skin Deep is beautiful. What I liked about his overall performance was the change in dynamics throughout the set. The band was tight and his other guitarist very talented. What a wonderful rainy night for the blues!

Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang are SPECTACULAR

    by Stratman1970 on 2010-04-14TCU Place - Saskatoon

WOW WOW WOW Jonny Lang started out the night by coming out and playing for 70 minutes. He was amazing. His hot guitar licks and soulful voice were outstanding. Then Buddy came out and was the seasoned entertainer that I expected. With his cutting guitar leads, and his funny antics, the 75 minutes he was on stage felt like 7.5 minutes. Wonderful show from start to finish. Blues is alive and kickin'.

Mentor and understudy ... WOW !!!

by Klaus on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Jonny Lang's opening set was dynamic and inspired. His energy and passion are a rare treat, and of course the musicianship of him and his band was spot on. Buddy, the elder statesman of electric blues was totally on top of his game; Whitty, charming, and musically on fire ! One of the best ever.

by Anonymous on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I've been waiting 10 years to see Jonny Lang Play The Burton Cumming Theatre. I went to see him and got a topping on the Night with Buddy Guy's awesome , entertaining performance. We had 5th row center and the view couldn't have been better. Got some great shots on my cell phone when he sat down a couple of seats down from us and played. Well worth the admission price! Bought the T-SHIRT( good price too) bubba's girl.

    Totally awesome !!!!

by Jill960 on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Buddy Guy was sure a treat to go see. He is an amazing guitarist & singer and it was such an honour to see a living blues legend playing in person. I have never been to the Burton Cummings Theater for a concert and would definitely go back again. The sound was great our seats were awesome (4th row on the floor) and the overall atmosphere was quaint. I felt like a was sitting in my living room watching him play in front of us. I have also never been to a blues concert and Buddy just got my hooked ! His band was terrific - the perfect compliment for him. (I especially liked his dueling guitar solo). Overall the whole night was a total awesome experience - I'd definitely go see him again ! You rock Buddy !!!

Two Great Acts One Great Evening

by Encoder on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

One of the best concerts I’ve attended this year. It’s not every concert you go to where the warm up band gets a standing ovation from everyone in the crowd. Jonny Lang was fantastic and I thought it would be a tough act to follow, but the Buddy Guy came out and put on a show that proved he is still one of the best blues artists of all time. One hell of an entertainer, he kept the audience engaged with his great humor, wit and of course fantastic blues. 5 out 5 stars.

Jonny and Buddy ... soulful night!

by BringOnTheBlues on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

From start to finish, your mind, body and spirit were enveloped in the magic of these two musicians. Closing your eyes, let the beat take you to another place where the music speaks beyond the words, beyond the sound. The only thing missing... a song with these two musical geniuses together on the stage.

Two incredible shows in one night

by burger311 on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Jonny Lang is a great guitarist and vocalist although it was a little hard making out the lyrics and vocals in the upper tiers. Salute to the drummer Buddy Guy was as usual the showman and entertainer. A fantastic guitarist with a great back up band. The keyboard player rocked those keys and backup guitarist was awesome. Buddy's sound was much clearer up in the upper tiers than Jonny's was.

Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang were totally AWESOME!!!!!

by msjojo on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang are excellent entertainers. I loved the interaction of both performers with the crowd and even though we were in the first balcony, I felt connected. The Burton Cummings Theater is a great venue - much better than the MTS Center or the Concert Hall. I am still on a high from last night! But where is the review in the Winnipeg Free Press???????????

Buddy and Jonny and the blues

by 59blues on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Jonny Lang opened and Buddy Guy continued a display of guitar gymnastics at the Cummings theate last night. Their vocal ranges and their ability to make the guitars wail, and their solid backing bands, made for a great night of blues. Personally, I would like to hear more straight ahead playing, and less tricky little guitar moves and flirting with the audience, but that's just me. Talking to Winnipeg bluesman Brent Parkin at the show - we agreed that while Buddy has earned his stripes. Jonny (wunderkid from Fargo) is a bit young to be playing up the tricks as much as he did - he's a solid guitarist, great vocalist, let's hear more of it! The hall was packed, everybody was happy, and I sure would pay to see them again!

    Amazing performances. Definite must see!

by SimplyTheBest on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Both Jonny Lang, who is one of my favourite artists, and Buddy Guy were excellent. They lived up to all of my expectations and surpassed them. This was my second time seeing Jonny Lang and first time seeing Buddy Guy. I would definitely suggest to anyone who enjoys listening to the blues to go see either one of them if you ever have a chance. They are well worth every penny spent. I can't wait for them to return.

    Buddy Guy outstanding!

by taby on 2010-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This is the third time that we have gone to see Buddy Guy and he has always been great. The show is very entertaining although a little repetative once you have seen him once or twice. He has amazing talent, showmanship and gets the crowd going every time.

    Buddy Guy

by JaneAnn on 2010-04-12Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The opening acts were excellent - Steve Strongman - nice to have the hometown touch and talent. Tom Hambridge was engaging and had amazing rhythm, it was like his drum was an extension of himself. And of course Buddy Guy was just sensational - very professional band and exceptional performance. The space between the acts was just weird - after Steve performed the lights went up - and the same after Tom performed....It went on too long. Also the sound equipment had some feedback (a rushing sound) a couple of times when Buddy was walking around with his guitar....it detracted from a great show. By the way the keyboard player was just incredible - the whole band had perfect timing and rhythm.

Buddy Guy still the man !!

by Onefourfive on 2010-04-10Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Buddy Guy is by far the best Blues Man alive, Jimi would be proud of him. He puts on an amazing show. Hard driving blues, creamy ballods, a little comedy. Hope he lives forever.
