Calgary Wranglers History

The Calgary Wranglers are a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Wranglers trace their founding back to the Maine Mariners in 1977, but after several moves throughout the years, the Stockton Heat relocated to Calgary and were renamed the Calgary Wranglers ahead of the 2022–2023 AHL season. The name change itself was notable for reviving the same moniker as the former local Western Hockey League team, who played in Calgary from 1977 to 1987. In their inaugural AHL season, the Wranglers led the league in wins and regular season points, the latter of which earned the team the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy.

Calgary Wranglers at Scotiabank Saddledome

The Calgary Wranglers moved into downtown Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome following the team’s relocation to Stampede City in 2022. Despite its relatively new occupants, the Scotiabank Saddledome is no stranger to hockey, having hosted the NHL’s Calgary Flames since its opening in 1983 as well as the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen since 1995. The 19,280-seat arena also accommodated the Wranglers’ predecessor, the Stockton Heat, in 2021 prior to the team’s move.

    Great time. Loved it. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the quality of hockey. All 4 tickets for less than an nhl ticket and in the lower bowl. No mosh pit to get through the concourse.

    My son and I had a wonderful time. The level of hockey skill in the AHL is tremendous and it's a privilege to see such great talent early on in their careers. The Wranglers organization does a great job of keeping everyone entertained even through the intermissions. Go Wranglers!

    My family and I recently went to the wranglers game and had the most incredible experience! The cost per game was under $40 per ticket for incredible seats, we were 2nd row 2nd ring. The concession was being sold at a discounted rate, I think 50% off… it was Wrangler fest so after the 2nd period, the players / staff of the Wrangkers gave out so much promotional product, I beleive every person who attended the game walked away with free Wrangler Merch I am so incredibly thankful to the Wranglers for this great experience. Oh. The the talent of athletes was just as good as any NHL game if not better in my opinion. The only thing that would have made the experience better would have been a goal scored by the Wrangler’s and winning the game, maybe next time…

    Went to my first Wranglers game and it was a good time. Ticket price for the game is quite reasonable I think. If you want refreshments prepare to bring a bucket load of cash. Having the tickets downloaded on my phone from ticket master made entry easy and fast. Will plan another LIVE game night again.
