I like the story of Moulin Rouge; it's saucy, naughty, shady characters, women of the evening, and no-redeemable-qualities club owner, etc.
I was wondering how the story would translate without being able to rely on the typical music and without voices.
I was really looking forward to this RWB performance as I thought it would be a departure from the "regular" ballet.
I was a bit disappointed. I found the choreography typical and suitable for more standard ballet pieces. The first half was a bit flat, but things picked up a bit after intermission. The fight scene was a bit silly with some Westside Story moments.
It wasn't saucy and naughty enough. This is sex, booze, survival by your wits! It just wasn't there for me.
I did enjoy seeing much of the company be involved. The costumes were gorgeous, and I really enjoyed the little quartet moments.
