    Moulin Rouge

by dddd4567 on 2009-10-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The ballet 's can- can and story telling by dance was very well done . The scene with Matthew the young painter getting fitted for evening clothes was a big hit with me , the tailors dance made me smile and I definately enjoyed it even more with this little scene in it . The scenery was exellent . I hope they continue to do this ballet in the future .

Moulin Rouge, The Ballet - WOW

by Mactom on 2009-10-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The Music, The Scenery, the Dancing were all amazing. The Interpretation of the story outstanding and the Dancers were top class. I am a Ballet Neophyte and this was an excellent introduction to this very athletic and graceful performance.

    Swept away!

by DVDandVVD on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Bravo - a magical experience!!! Students from the RWB School toured northern communities a few years ago and came up to The Pas, where we live. My daughters were taking dance classes at the time and they were able to enjoy being with the dancers and learn from them. It was an experience that they never forgot. Two of the dancers they met were in the ballet, Jacelyn Lobay and Robert Pleschke Having them visit us helped to give us an appreciation of the RWB and the school. Thank you and congratulations on your 70th anniversary.

Gorgeous Display of Ballet...Needs a little grit.

by soulonfire on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This ballet was fantastic. The technical capabilities of the dancers, and the caliber of dance was incredible. It was lovely. However, i would've loved to see a little more grit and sexual tension and flashes of passion. But overall, I loved it.

    moulin rouge ballet

by kapa on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I thought the costumes and sets were spectacular. The technique of all the dancers - brilliant. However, I was disappointed in the performance. I thought the scenes in the Moulin Rouge with the female dancers could have given us a little more bawdiness. It was too pretty ; especially one solo where I thought I was at a recital it was so sweet. Loved the principal dancers. Second act opening scene tango; fantastic. That's what you need a little more spice in the rest of the dancing. So fine tune it. But a job well done to all the dancers and Jordan Morris.

It was a traditional and well done version of Moulin Rouge. Dancing and costumes were wonderful. I had hoped for an edgier interpretation.

    Moulin Rouge, Visually Stunning!

by stephenM on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The backdrop and costumes seemed to take you right into the set of Moulin Rouge. I loved the twist in the story line and the dancers were phenomenal. This was my first ballet and it certainly won't be my last, Thank you to the RWB for such a memorable event.

    great show!

by wpgfan on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

This was a great show with wonderful music. The lead ballerina was superb, as well as the 2 lead males. Costumes and set were excellent too...a great show overall. Only thing I could possible say that was negative was the music levels weren't loud enough in some spots. At the beginning there is a quick song with accordian and I couldn't hear a word the singer said. Too bad!

    Moulin Rouge Totally Enchanting!

by senhorita on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The scenery and lightning was just fantastic, taking you directly into the heart of the romantic and tragic story. Ad the inspiring music to that and the amazing dancers, you had an unforgettable evening! Colourful costumes and pointed Can-Can - just fantastic! Paris was right here in Winnipeg….. L'amour toujour l'amour!!!!

    A Lackluster Performance

by LarryCRM on 2009-10-25Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I was disappointed by what I would refer to as an almost insipid performance. It seemed to lack the enthusiasm and atmosphere of the time. It needed a certain "seediness"! The 'Can Can' could have been developed more. The whole scenic performance reminded me of the film 'American in Paris" with Gene Kelly. I have seen better dancing by the Ballet Cuba, Bolshoi, Royal London, Glasgow and Madrid companies.

    Moulon Rouge

by QuestingJeff on 2009-10-24Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

While the second half of this original work was wonderful with a great combination of contemporary and classic ballet, the first half dragged. I ended up have quite a nice snooze.

    Moulin Rouge not Naughty

by Marie45 on 2009-10-24Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I like the story of Moulin Rouge; it's saucy, naughty, shady characters, women of the evening, and no-redeemable-qualities club owner, etc. I was wondering how the story would translate without being able to rely on the typical music and without voices. I was really looking forward to this RWB performance as I thought it would be a departure from the "regular" ballet. I was a bit disappointed. I found the choreography typical and suitable for more standard ballet pieces. The first half was a bit flat, but things picked up a bit after intermission. The fight scene was a bit silly with some Westside Story moments. It wasn't saucy and naughty enough. This is sex, booze, survival by your wits! It just wasn't there for me. I did enjoy seeing much of the company be involved. The costumes were gorgeous, and I really enjoyed the little quartet moments.

    Moulin Rouge missing the dirty

by Anonymous on 2009-10-24Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Moulin Rouge is not what you would typically think that it would be. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet portrays it with a burlesque Parisian woman. When it actuality, it was missing the sexy and dirtiness of what Moulin Rouge really is. You'd think they would have made the costumes or something a little more risque or some dancing. Anything! When you look at the program for the show, the cover is white with the two main characters dressed in neutral colors. Then, you flip the cover over to the back to see a red and black cover with a burlesque lady on the cover. Two completely different scenes and the true Moulin Rouge of the ballet was not hit.

I enjoyed the ballet so very much. I am not a regular patron of the arts but like something that is fun and entertaining. that is what I feel Moulin Rouge is. I would recommend it to anyone and could certainly watch it again.

    Moulin Rouge was exceptional

by Provence on 2009-10-24Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

We absolutely enjoyed the whole production. The costumes were beautiful & the stage was wonderful. It made us want to get on a plane & go back to Paris. We loved the mix of soft ballet & fast caberet dancing. Not that easy to do as it was not cabaret dancing nor ballet only. Much more exciting than a traditional ballet . The quiet, tender pas de deux was beautiful and all of the music was lovely.

Superb dancing, but let's get a little dirty

by Misa on 2009-10-24Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Costumes - colourful and beautiful. Performances - superb. Crowd - appreciative and attentive. But isn't the Moulin Rouge known for it's raunchiness? Why would the costume designer take Nathalie from the streets and bring her to the Moulin Rouge to be what?... a fairy princess? The pale pink ensemble and tiara doesn't really work at the Moulin Rouge. Is this what Zidler had in mind? I doubt it. Where was the excess in it all? Goulue had the right look and Nathalie should have been taken to the next level of trampy, sexy, seductress. At least some red lipstick maybe? And I wish the dancing at the Moulin Rouge would have had a little more "dirty" in it. Find 'em and grind 'em. And if I am ever shot , I hope I can live out my last moments dancing as beautifully as Nathalie. She seemed to be able to go on and on and on.
