    Always love the Nutcracker

by Beejazzes on 2017-12-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This performance was a birthday present for my grandson. He is particularly fond of the scenes with the mice and their battle. We loved the challenge with the carrot. As always we loved the Canadian touches and the reindeer which were new to us this year. We do have a comment about costuming. While they were all beautiful, we both felt that there was too much pink. The flowera were all pink as we're the sugar plums and other dancers. This patron likes to be able to distinguish the Sugar Plum fairy from the flowers!!!! Other than that we loved the performance.

    Ballet with the family

by goldiepony83 on 2017-12-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We ended up purchasing tickets for the Nutcracker for my family (all adults). It was a great show. The first half was hands down my favourite-very story-like and easy to follow. Once Clara falls into dream, the story was a bit hard to follow. The “dream” version of Clara and the Nutcracker didn’t much resemble the initial child Clara and her child love interest. There was a lot of dance of course but not much story. The young children in the ballet were ADORABLE. The dancing itself was beautiful just a bit long at times. Overall we would definitely go back and because we knew the show storyline, we were able to follow easily. Costumes were great, energy was also great!

    A Holiday Classic

by ToniLawrie on 2017-12-09National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

My daughter and I begin the Christmas season with our annual visit to the NAC to see Nutcracker, we have been doing this for 12 years. We have seen the RWB interpretation many times. This year was wonderful! We loved the additions of the polar bears, the reindeer, and extending the role of Drosselmeier in Act 2. Thank you, Royal Winnipeg Ballet for a wonderful evening.

    Reaching the stars

by GBRU on 2016-04-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

RWB is a Canadian treasure and this dance was a bright moment in Canadian arts. The very fact of making a ballet to highlight this special moment in the aboriginal relationship with Canada was brave and doing so with such a complex story daunting. The issue seemed to be too big for a stage, but the dancers on that stage made moments come alive so there are flashes of feeling and hope that any audience will have for a very long time. Bravo to a company challenging the way an arts company should!

The RWB's Going Home Star was amazing!

by Wrench1 on 2016-04-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Going Home Star - Truth And Reconciliation was beautifully done! It respected the First Nations traditions, not just of the residential school survivors but of the lands where we were are. The story, written by Joseph Boyden was delicious. The dancing followed the story line & beautifully told the story of Annie & Gordon. Some of the story was difficult, like the physical and sexual abuse in the residential school, but it was part of the story that needs to be told. Telling it using ballet was moving & done with sensitivity. It was very moving. If I had one small criticism, it would be that some of the props used it would be that they sometimes blocked the view of the dancers and made it difficult to see what was going on.

Going Home Star was very moving!

by toughnutt on 2016-04-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I loved the music, the set, the dancing, the costumes but mostly I loved the fact that truth and reconciliation is going mainstream. I didn't know what to expect and I was very impressed.
