About

CARLENE CARTER IN CONCERT:

Country music royalty Carlene Carter does her family's storied legacy proud every time she takes the stage to perform her folk and gospel-infused brand of country rock. The daughter of June Carter Cash, step-daughter of Jonny Cash, and one-time member of country music pioneers The Carter Family, Carter learned how to write songs from the best in the business, and she's been performing with grit and soul since she was a teenager. In concert she's a force to be reckoned with, turning out no-frills favorites like "It Takes One to Know Me" and "I Fell in Love" with a big smile as she strums along exuberantly on her acoustic guitar. Carter is equal parts rock and roller and country traditionalist, and she’s slated to bring her warm voice and evocative songs to the stage as an opener on John Mellencamp's 2015/16 Plain Spoken Tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Nashville-born Carlene Carter grew up immersed in and influenced by the music of her mother June Carter Cash and the rest of The Carter Family, a family folk troupe that became country music's first bona fide stars. Carter made her recording debut in 1974 with the song "Friendly Gates", which appeared on her stepfather Johnny Cash's album The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me. Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1978 and she enjoyed moderate success with a string of rocking country albums released in the early '80s, but she didn't really break out until she returned to her country folk roots for her 1990 album I Fell in Love. That album was a Top 20 hit on the Country charts, spawning major hits like "Come on Back" and the album's Grammy-nominated title track. She followed up with the popular albums Little Love Letters (1993) and Little Acts of Treason (1995) before taking a break from music, and in 2008 she made a triumphant return with the album Stronger. Since then she's continued to pay tribute to her impressive country music heritage with passionate performances on tour and critically acclaimed recordings like 2014's Carter Girl, which featured reinterpretations of timeless Carter Family tunes.
