CHAKA KHAN IN CONCERT:

The Queen of Funk has no equal: Chaka Khan is, indeed, a living legend. Her live performances are energetic histories of her four-decade long career in music -- from her funk days through her jazz and R&B heydays. Her profound voice carries her fans "Through the Fire," and "Ain't Nobody" loves them better than Chaka. Although Chaka's appearances are less frequent than in her heyday, she delivered big at her 2013 shows, wowing fans and building excitement for her select dates in 2014. Make no mistake: she's got it. She's still got it.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chicago-born Yvette Marie Stevens came up in rough South Side housing projects before she rose to fame under the name Chaka Khan. Her grandmother introduced her to jazz music at an early age and instilled a life-long love of the genre. As she grew up, she bounced around all-girl singing groups and small bands before joining the Black Panthers and changing her name. While performing in a local band in 1972, she was poached by a new group called Rufus, and with her at the lead, the group signed a major contract with ABC Records just a year later. After several years with Rufus, she proved to be just as talented on her own with the 1978 solo debut Chaka, featuring the ubiquitous hit “I’m Every Woman”. All said and done, she has won ten Grammys and sold over 200 million records worldwide.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"She is a gift of 'honey for the ears!' No one will ever match her talent! We are so fortunate that she shares her gift with the world, and that she has been blessed with an unchanging voice."

"As expected, Chaka torn it up and I couldn't get enough even though she sang for over an hour and a half. I loved every minute of it."

"Very relaxing show! She is a loving artist! Performance great!"

  • Hello Chaka?

by Eskay11 on 2018-01-30Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino Event Center - Niagara FallsRating: 3 out of 5

Not sure Chaka Khan would be able to present this show without her exceptional band and “back-up” singers. There were times when they carried the show. She seemed lost. Forgot her set list so the band started playing so she’d know what song was up next. Started telling a story about writing a specific song and couldn’t remember for sure what decade she wrote it in. Back-up singers did a lot of the heavy lifting. But when they needed a big note Chaka delivered.

  • Worst concert ever.

The sound was awful. The concert was in the conference Center. It stared at 8:15 and ended at 9;45. Awful

  • How does she do it?

Every time I swear she gets better. Chaka Khan is an ageless beauty with a Voice and Stage presence to match. No matter the venue, Chaka Khan always seems to make everyone feel involved and a part of the show. Whether it's singing "tell me something good" for the ladies or the men responding "tell me that you like it Yeah". Or the more memorable explanation of Why Chaka Khan is not a Diva (her words). I highly suggest that anyone who appreciates good music, and a great singer, See Chaka Khan perform.

  • WOW!

    by Rennzzo on 2013-10-30Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 5 out of 5

First of all, Chaka Khan looks fantastic I don't know how much. Amen. At 60, I expected her voice to show some sign of age, as we've seen in many singers who have been around as long as she has. Instead, she came out on stage and wowed all of us. She still hits those ethereal highs with an apparent ease that makes many singers more than a little "green". This was an amazing concert--I would like to follow her around all over the US to EVERY show, but who's going to pay for that? It was happenstance that I came across her tour dates online, and for that I am very grateful. It really is a dream come true for me to finally see one of my all-time idols perform live. Chaka, our beautiful Chaka, is forever queen.

  • Super

I had known of Chaka Khan for many years but had not kept up with her music. But I chose her show as I was going with someone older and someone younger than me. I must say her music spoke to all of us. Amazing performance for someone who is only 10 years younger than myself. Her voice is still strong and vibrant. And myself and my two friend were up and dancing with all the rest of the people in the room. BRAVO CHAKA, if ever get a chance to see you again I will be there. Your stage crew were well chosen to enhance your wonderful voice. Sing as long as you can and entertain the people who adore you. You are one ACCOMPLISHED ENTERTAINER. The only thing was the venue, The chairs were very uncomfortable. Check out RAMA CASINO IN CENTRAL ONTARIO CANADA FOR A VERY UNIQUE SEATING PLAN.

  • Chaka Khan - One amazing WOMAN!!!

    by TLCat40 on 2009-08-23Phoenix Center - PontiacRating: 5 out of 5

Chaka's live performance was way, way better than the greatest hits CD!!! To finally see you live was well worth the wait now that I am 40. Those not in attendance truly missed out. And though Detroit's Chene park is a closer drive, Pontiac Phoenix Centre is a beautiful venue for us lawn seat holders. Chaka's voice is still as powerful as when I was a kid from what I can remember. Adding in some Rufus hits just topped the show. As long as Chaka performs, I will pay to see her and next time I will buy seats near the stage if I can get them. Thanks for an awesome and lengthy performance, it was worth the wait due to the delayed start. Drawbacks were NO CHAKA T-SHIRTS to show off at work and the delayed start with the SOS Band. Hopefully when she returns to the Greater Detroit Area the economy will pick up and Chaka will sell out as she should!!!
