LAURYN HILL IN CONCERT:
As a member of the Fugees and a decorated solo artist, the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill broke new ground for female artists in hip hop, becoming one of the most dominant musical figures of the '90s and the first hip-hop artist to take home a Grammy for Album of the Year. With new material and a critically-acclaimed tour in 2013, Hill proved she hasn't lost her edge – or her voice – taking the stage with a full backing band and breathing new life into her catalog of hits with updated arrangements, extensive improvisation, and dramatic readings of her socially conscious verses.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Do not sleep on Lauryn! She is back. She was on point! This is what music has been missing!"
"The vibe was continuously raised to higher heights. What is quickly apparent is that this is no traditional act – from the beginning a very unique and nostalgic vibe is set through the familiar set list, but against brand new arrangements that drive the classic material head first into the multi-genre-infused present."
"Epic performance by Lauryn Hill. She killed it in every way possible. So happy I was able to be a part of it."
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Hill rose to international fame when the Fugees' seminal 1996 album The Score topped charts around the world, earning a Grammy for her spellbinding cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." The group’s dissolution in 1997 did nothing to hinder her success – 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her only solo studio album to date, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, landed a No. 1 single with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, and took home five Grammys, including Album of the Year. A seasoned performer, Hill continued to impress fans in 2013 with her substance-over-style approach, building excitement for the much-anticipated 2014 release of her sophomore album Letters From Exile.
Worth every penny. I love her even more. Didn’t know that was possible. Such an entertaining and beautiful show.
It was a great show. She is real, passionate, and so talented. She was also so proud of Zion you could feel the love. What a queen on stage!
Ms. Lauryn Hill was not disappointing. The show was about an hour late starting but was worth the wait (any longer on a week night would not have been ideal). Some classics mixed with some unreleased songs and Zion's performance was enjoyable. Only wish was that she performed longer than 1 hour.
What an amazing performance by Ms Lauryn Hill and her band I’m glad that Winnipeg was the first stop on their Canada tour. We definitely showed up.
The best. Period, point blank. What more do we need to know. Nothing. Period. Point blank. Thank you. Period, point blank.
She is the best. Pointe finale. Period, point blank.
Save Your Money……………That’s it, that’s all………………………………
This was a huge disappointment. I love her as an artist and have always been a huge fan. But damn this was a horrible experience. She was 2 hours late, we sat in a stadium with literally no music. She came on, and didn’t apologize and had an awful attitude. Half way through her performance she literally just disappeared for 20min and they played random music. She came back and did a bit more and it was done. The whole time, she was barley audible, had very little stage presence and the band completely drown her out
Lauryn Hill came on about 9:30. She sang a lot of cool variations of her Miseducation songs, but I could see why some people might want the familiar classic versions. Wyclef did a great job and brought a lot of energy.
Didn't care that she was late because that was to be expected of her. She sounded great despite her vocal strain, but that was when I could actually hear her. I understand that she can't perform the original versions of her songs, but the sound was so bad, that could barely make out what songs she was performing half the time. The show was also just very chaotic in general, the random raves in the middle of the set, were odd but fun lmao. And I was little disappointed that Wyclef only performed for like 30 minutes. Maybe I'm just being generous because she's a legend.
