Chicago Cubs History
The Chicago Cubs are one of the foundational teams of the National League, joining for the inaugural 1876 season as the Chicago White Stockings and later adopting the Cubs name in 1903. The Cubs have one of the deepest and most loyal fanbases in Major League Baseball, despite suffering a championship drought that lasted a league-record 108 years. The Cubs have won three World Series titles, in 1907, 1908, and 2016, along with 17 National League Pennants and six NL Central Division titles.
Over the years, the Cubs have produced dozens of Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, including former first baseman and manager Cap Anson, two-time MVP slugger Ernie "Mr. Cub" Banks and the double-play combo of Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers and Frank Chance. Ten players have won MVP honors while wearing a Cubs uniform, most recently with Kris Bryant in 2016. Bryant also won Rookie of the Year in 2015, the same year Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta received the Cy Young Award.
