About

Chilliwack In Concert

With their string of hits through the 1970s and ‘80s, Chilliwack were responsible for some of the most memorable and melodic songs of the era. They also became part of the foundation for Canadian popular music, with smashes like "Baby Blue," "Fly at Night," and "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" all helping to ensure the nation's musical artists had a regular home on their own airwaves.

Though vitally important as a landmark act of the early "Can-Con" era, Chilliwack is very much part of the present, too. Bill Henderson is still at the helm more than five decades after the band's origins in Vancouver's bustling rock scene of the ‘60s.

Seeking a fresh start after the collapse of local favourites The Collectors, Henderson founded Chilliwack in 1970. By 1972, they were making an impact on both sides of the border with songs like "Lonesome Mary," the first of many singles that cracked Billboard's Top 100. The smooth, sultry rocker "Crazy Talk" and more country-influenced "Raino" earned them further exposure.

Henderson and his group hit their apex in the early ‘80s with the release of "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)," an ingenious mix of hard rock, pure pop, and doo-wop that showcased Henderson's vocal harmonies with the band's drummer and co-vocalist Brian MacLeod. A No. 1 single at home that also reached No. 22 in the U.S., it established Chilliwack as Canada's preeminent hit-makers. In 1982, the band extended the winning streak with their tenth album ‘Opus X' and "Whatcha Gonna Do," another top 10 single in Canada.

Though lineup changes and record company problems led to the end of Chilliwack's original run in 1988, Henderson's music career continued to thrive thanks to his participation in UHF, a Canadian folk-rock supergroup he formed with Shari Ulrich and Roy Forbes.

The demand for Chilliwack was so high that Henderson launched a new version of the band in 1997. Released in 2003, ‘There and Back – Live' is a testament to Chilliwack's renewed vitality. One of Canada's most iconic musical acts remains an audience favorite thanks to Henderson's indefatigable energy as the frontman. He gets invaluable support from such talented players as his brother Ed Henderson on guitars and background vocals, and drummer Jerry Adolphe, a part of the Chilliwack story since 1984.

Good concert, the band were engaging and entertaining. The band was worth seeing. The venue, River Cree Casino needs to improve their sound system as the singers voices were difficult to separate from the music.

never go to Enoch casino to watch a concert

by classic rock on 2019-07-01River Cree Resort & Casino - Enoch

We were harassed by staff the entire time for cheering at a rock concert. It was even worse after when we were stalked on the casino floor for the rest of the evening. They were just waiting for us to make mistake so they could kick us out. Never been to a worse place. Chilliwack rocked though!! They still sound amazing.

    Chills from Chilliwack

by Leah on 2019-07-01River Cree Resort & Casino - Enoch

Chilliwack did a fantastic job. They were still able to hit the high notes without a crackle. Pretty amazing for being around since the 70’s.

    Disappointed

by Hardcore on 2018-03-06Century Casino - Edmonton

Was really looking forward to their show as they have such good studio material. They definitely weren't hitting the high notes or playing what the audience went to hear. A couple of hits and a lot of b-sides. I confirmed with some people older than myself that they weren't noteworthy singles.

Wilcox should have been the main act...

by Nikspapa on 2017-10-16Club Regent Event Centre - Winnipeg

David Wilcox is still worth seeing after all these years. His voice is still strong, he always brings a tight backing band. Chilliwack on the other hand.... not so much. Classic albums, timeless songs that everyone still loves to hear, but from a live show standpoint it may be time to back it in.

    Chilliwack doesn't understand fans

by Peg63 on 2017-10-16Club Regent Event Centre - Winnipeg

For some reason Chilliwack decided to play a concert made up of their version of progressive pop jazz and facile "new" songs instead of concentrating on their hits. Know your audience. No one at the concert wanted to see a experimental jam. Ugh.

Enjoyable melodic Chilliwack + Rockin' Doucette

by Atee on 2017-05-02Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

This is the first time I have seen Chilliwack live and they performed old favourites and their newest song well. It was nice hearing Bill Henderson talk about some the band's history and special moments. Doucette opened with their classic songs and included jazzier blues numbers that showed the range of the band. Bill and Jerry showed just how good they are as guitarists and their vocals are exceptional given that they are no longer in their twenties. I enjoyed both groups and it's wonderful to see these Canadian Legends continue to tour - verve!

    Best one yet!

by GraySkye on 2017-05-02Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

We've seen Chilliwack a few times now, and this was the best yet. Aside from the fact that 70 year old guys are up on stage rocking it like they both mean it and like it, the most amazing thing is that THEY ARE STILL WRITING MUSIC. They did a song about solar powered panels on a high school on Saltspring Island and made that mundane thing sound like something. And they did a song I've never heard, but they said it was popular in Calgary in 1973 (I was 9, so ... ) ... something about muddy groundhogs and toothy snakes .... totally strange song but it's Chilliwack and so it was fantastic (I've looked it up and it was "Groundhog" from 1972). One thing we agreed on (us and everyone around us) is that even though the high notes are getting tougher to reach and sounded the teeniest bit rusty, we all forgive them that and just sing along loud and help. Community! So much fun. Honestly.

    Modification is in the cards

    by Arlene295 on 2017-05-02Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Doucette was great. The band played popular as well as more obscure songs. The vocal was very good as Jerry did not "try" to hit those high notes as previously recorded. Mama Let Him Play was the final song and I feel they boosted the volume. Big mistake as it became very distorted. But overall was a solid performance. For the age of the band I give it 4/5 Chilliwack was not bad. They played many of their hits. And they certainly put a lot of physical into the show. However, as their songs are comprised of the high falsetto they need to find a way to sing these songs in a modified way. The high notes were scratchy, screeched, or shouted. And it was not pleasant to listen too. For the age of the band I give it 3/5.

Chilliwack and opener Jerry Doucette really good.

by Disappointedgranny on 2017-05-02Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Excellent show! Seats are crowded and the wrist band method is a nuisance as the time line is too long. A bit later for wrist bands would be more appropriate. I realize they are doing it so that you loiter before the show and spend money at the facility but it makes for a long night.
