    Absolutely loved it!!!

by MargieSings on 2018-03-19Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Stunning choreography! Beautiful dancers! Breathtaking, colourful sets! The step sisters were hilarious and made it fun! The imagery of the sparkles being thrown to singnify their marriage was beautiful in the light. Loved every minute of it!

What a great mix of class, beauty and humour in this ballet. We enjoyed the entire performance. My daughter was in awe of the amazing ballerinas. Can not wait to take her to another one!

    What Could Have Been ...

by Atee on 2018-03-17Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The performance was alright but not an exceptional version of the classic Cinderella story. put to ballet. Although the performers are great at what they do, there was nothing original in the dancing, nothing to spur the spirit. It had some funny moments especially at the expense of Cinderella's sisters, but they were based on dated and old fashioned views of what "bad" people should be. Rather than focusing and seeking humor in Cinderella's sisters looking the way they do and being awkward, a more modern and sensitive version would have them judged by their poor behaviors, attitudes and treatment of others.

    A bit of everything.

My teen boys and I loved the funny parts and I loved the traditional parts. Beautifully done and there were no real villains.

    Cinderella was a pumpkin.

by MikeC1000 on 2018-03-17Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Having seen the authentic Cinderella, not this "adapted" version, this was a miserable comparison. The storyline was not portrayed well and was hard to follow. If one didn't know the story, there would have been no making any sense of this or the characters themselves. Cinderella's solo was little more than whirling about the stage. The coach was beautifully done, however, as were the horses. The attempts at the stepdaughters humour fell flat also. We left at intermission, which is now the second ballet in my lifetime that I've walked out on, the first one being Othello, also by Alberta Ballet. We'll continue to support Alberta Ballet, but it will be for the authentic and original choreography for classical ballets or guest artists. Sorry, guys, but you've got to do better.

The costumes & set were wonderful; the dancers marvelous; but, the horses & carriage were MAGNIFICENT! Sorry to see a couple of slips by the dancers, I hope the dancer who took the big fall is ok. The music wasn’t very memorable, but that might have been the choice.
