Before attending a show I will sometimes read reviews ahead of time, and sometimes I won't, mostly to retain the element of surprise. In this case I probably should have--not that it was horrible, it just wasn't what I expected and had hoped for. First of all the format is very different to a normal Cirque. The stage is more traditional with an orchestra at the back and a standard square area in front of them, which wasn't very big (my first indication that this wasn't going to be a normal Cirque show). At the beginning the orchestra starts off alone and plays a couple traditional holiday songs. Then the host comes out, and is not nearly as funny as he thinks he is. Then they start integrating with the orchestra playing and a few performers on the stage. The acts tended to be the more slow, minimal action type performances--still impressive but no wow factor. The best was probably the board balancing act at the beginning--that guy was good, and we were convinced he was going to fall. The rest of the acts were about flexibility, strength and juggling. The young boy that is part of the act is quite good for 11 years old, I'll give him that. Then a couple Vegas style lounge singers came out and did a few songs with the orchestra. Not that impressive and borderline cheesy. And that was pretty much how the night went. Again, it wasn't horrible, it was just a very toned down version of Cirque, paired with some orchestral holiday music. Glad I didn't pay too much for the tickets.
