About

The sophomore full-length from Clairo, Sling is an album with its own charmed atmosphere, graced with the easy warmth of a far lovelier era but wholly the outcome of her bright & restless mind. In creating the body of work, the 22-year-old co-produced alongside Jack Antonoff, recording at Allaire Studios in Upstate New York. As Clairo reveals, Sling’s lyrical element was largely informed by the adoption of her dog Joanie. “When I got Joanie, I started changing my routines & habits to healthier ones, to try to create an environment where she felt comfortable & happy, It made me realize I hadn’t been doing that for myself, & that I need to look at myself with the same respect that I’d give to someone I care about.” Several tracks feature background vocals from Lorde, “Blouse” offers a meditation on the degrading behavior of men in power. “I think a lot of people know that feeling of having to compromise a part of yourself in order to be heard, you finally get to where you’ve hoped to be for so long, & there’s just this guy looking down your shirt.” Her sophomore album, Sling provided countless moments of revelation for Clairo. While a number of guest musicians contributed to the album’s arrangements, most was handled by Clairo & Antonoff. The result is a perfect setting for Clairo’s songwriting, allowing abundant space for her nuanced exploration of mental health, unmet expectations, and the struggle to treat ourselves with gentleness and love.

    Bass over amplified!!

    by M. S. on 2022-07-28

Clairo was an angel, good energy and wonderful songs. However, most of the experience was ruined by an amateur work of the sound engineer who cranked up bass to the point that it the music neither audible nor enjoyable. People who sat on the balcony could not hear the music/lyrics because of the over amplified low decibels. What's worse, my daughter who migrated to the 1st floor so that she could hear a more balanced performance, hurt her eardrum and suffered a bad case of tinnitus! This is an example of a butchered sound engineering work that jeopardized the health of people in the audience. You should consider the size of the venue and it's acoustic specifics when setting the bass on!

    Base overamplified!

    by M. S. on 2022-07-28MTELUS - Montreal

The singers were wonderful, good energy and nice ambiance. However (I am serious!) you should fire your sound engineer, for an overamplification of low decibels and cranking up the base to the point that: -people who were sitting on the balcony could not hear a singer; -my daughter who was on the main floor and now has a bad case of tinnitus. The sound engineer should have considered the specifics of acoustics of the venue as well as its size. The job he or she did was amateur and very dangerous and deteriorating health-wise, for the audience.

    The best ever

by Lexie on 2022-07-28L'Olympia - Montreal

Was everything and more. She sang extra songs for us and sounded so good. Her voice is even better in person. I was pretty close to barricade and I could see so well. If you can definitely try and get as close as you can.

    Outstanding Performance

by Nicole on 2019-11-20The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I was very amazed by Clairo's performance, not only hers but her opening acts Beabadoobee and Hello Yello's as well. Clairo did an outstanding job pulling the crowd's attention onto her, there wasn't a single dull moment in her performance. Her singing her slower songs and her new songs were beyond mesmerizing, her vocals were ethereal. She had a great way of interacting with the crowd, she incorporated us in such a great way. During "I Don't Think I Can Do This Again", the crowd was unstoppable, everyone seemed like they were having the time of their lives, jumping around like absolute maniacs. When she sang "I Wouldn't Ask You", I loved how the audience became the children choir supporting her magnificent vocals, it was just such a great way of incorporating the crowd with her performance. I had floor seats, my friends and I waited for three hours outside the venue in the cold just to be upfront next to the stage, my feet were exhausted but there's no doubt that it was worth it based on the experience I had.

    Soundcheck required

by habs1227 on 2019-11-20The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Sitting in the balcony and the sound mix was atrocious. The vocals were simply not getting to us in a way to enjoy. Hard to hear the lyrics. The music got to us, the vocals not so much. Extremely frustrating, so much so that we left after 4 songs as it was pointless to sit through this sort of experience. Never before have we had such an experience at the Danforth. And this was her 2nd night of two??

Date night with my 12yr old

by Samra on 2019-11-20The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

It was a lovely concert. She is a great singer. Did not like the venue at all. Poor lighting we did not see her face at all during the performance. She had a screen in the background it Would have been awesome if they had at heady once in a while put her in the screen during the live show.

best show i have EVER been to

by connor mowat on 2019-11-19The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

i went to both of her shows in toronto. i had meet n greet tickets for the first one and she was SO nice. i made a song about her a year before the show and she remembered it and we laughed about it together. after the second show i waited outside to meet her..... and she was again SO NICE, and she said she was excited to check out more of my music. overall an amazing live show sounded much different in person than it did on the album - in a good way. she's really fleshed out a bigger sound for the live crowd and having a legitimate band behind her was amazing. 10/10
