Venerable funnyman and Saturday Night Live alum Dana Carvey is the mastermind behind some of comedy's most beloved personas, from Wayne's World's Garth Algar to SNL's Church Lady. Born in Missoula, Montana, Carvey landed some minor film roles in the early '80s before becoming a household name as part of Saturday Night Live's 1986 featured cast. Carvey played a pivotal role in boosting the show's waning popularity, becoming an audience favorite with iconic characters like Church Lady and the bodybuilder Hans of "Hans and Franz." His most famous SNL role, however, was his portrayal of Garth Algar alongside Mike Meyers in the epochal Wayne's World sketches, which spawned one of the most successful movie franchises of the '90s. Over his three decade-spanning career, Carvey has been nominated for six Emmys, cementing his place as one of comedy's modern greats.
