Harvest Picnic = BEST. PICNIC. EVER!!!!

by Alig on 2011-08-29Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

The Harvest Picnic with Daniel Lanois and friends was definitely one of this summers incredible highlights. I attend many festivals, from daily events to larger scale 4-5 day events and without question place Harvest Picnic right up there with the top of the list. From parking and lot organization to food (availability and taste!) to beer/wine sales and the ability to walk freely with your drink (versus being confined to a beer tent) everything was perfect. The band lineup was immaculate as well as the sound system (one of the best I've heard for an outdoor fest). Everyone who performed did so wonderfully and the crowd responded with grace and attentiveness. I sincerely hope this becomes an annual event and I give huge thanks to Lanois for bringing this fest to my hometown, and to everyone involved for a successful (and sunny!) day! I will be there with bells on next year!

Daniel Lanois and Friends - BEST THIS SUMMER

by DJLAW on 2011-08-29Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Where to start??? We arrived around 12 PM and were thoroughly entertained for 10 hours. I had always, for 50 years dreamed of seeing Emmy Lou in person, and my wait was so wonderfully rewarded. The serene setting of Christie Conservation area just added to the perfect day. Top notch food, beer and wine with displays from our local farmers made the event just as advertised: a harvest picnic. We must have it again next year, MUST.

Harvest Picnic with Daniel Lanois and Friends

by Manipulated on 2011-08-29Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

It was perfect. Shade, tunes, singing, dancing, beer at your chair instead of in a beer tent, great variety of food vendors, sustainability message was integrated into everything from signage to market vendors to artisans. Daniel did a wonderful job of conceiving and executing the event - I am sure with the help of many others. Thank-you for a wonderful day, experience and reminder of our planet's fragility.

Excellent! Loved every minute of it. Sarah Harmer was great, and Lamontagne and Co. were absolutely fantastic. My highlight: Emmylou Harris with Lanois and Co performing most songs from Wrecking Ball. Outstanding!

Good idea; room for improvement though

by Anonymous on 2011-08-29Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Great performances, and cool idea to incorporate local farmers and restaurants into the mix. However, I felt it was a bit overpriced... the hillside festival in Guelph is only $30 more expensive for an entire weekend pass (with similar quality artists). As well, while the idea of integrating local farmers into the festival was smart, it felt disjointed. People aren't going to be intersted in buying produce during a music festival (it felt like a farmer's market more than anything). Perhaps next year, there can be some collaboration with the food vendors and the farms to cook their dishes using the farmers' supplies. As well, it might be neat to set up a "cooking" station where people can bring produce they bought over and get lessons on how to make a nice local food meal! Hope to see it again next year, with some improvements over this one. PS. What was up with the Daniel Lanois Harvest Picnic Dancers???
