About

It's almost guaranteed that you've heard the music of David Arnold, an award-winning composer who has put up tunes for a wide breadth of Hollywood blockbusters and British treasures. Born in the U.K. in 1962, Arnold studied clarinet, guitar, and piano, eventually going to Luton Sixth Form College. There, he met Danny Cannon, a collaborator who would produce numerous television shows, including Fox's ‘Gotham' and many incarnations of ‘CSI.'

Arnold's first feature film was 1993's ‘The Young Americans' (starring Harvey Keitel and featuring Thandie Newton and Viggo Mortensen), which Cannon directed. Arnold composed and produced Björk's song for the film, "Play Dead," which charted in numerous countries, including at No. 12 in the U.K. After that, his path was set.

Arnold went on to compose music for Roland Emmerich films including ‘Stargate,' ‘Independence Day,' and ‘Godzilla.' For his work on ‘Independence Day,' he received a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television. Following that win, Arnold wrote music for films like ‘Zoolander,' Woody Allen's ‘Hollywood Ending,' and Edgar Wright's ‘Hot Fuzz.' He formed a productive partnership with director John Singleton, with whom he worked on ‘Shaft' and ‘2 Fast 2 Furious.' Arnold fell into a groove with the James Bond series, working on music for five of the iconic movies and helping write their theme songs.

Arnold received a Creative Arts Emmy for his score on the ‘Sherlock' episode "His Last Vow," and he won a BBC Radio Award for Best Music Production for ‘The Sound of Cinema with David Arnold.' Back in the pop world, he worked on a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" with Ed Sheeran, which charted at No. 34. Arnold was a musical director for the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
