    Wonderfully surprising!

by christelle on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I have never been to a reading before, and so I wasn't sure what to expect. Although it wasn't as long as I had expected (1.5 hours), he was light, refreshing and such a sincere man. Can't wait until he comes back.

    New Animal Stories

by kagi on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

The Writer's Festival with Ticketmaster put on a well organized, fun special event featuring the humourist American writer david sedaris, November 1, 2009. I write his name in lower case, the same in which it is printed on his book covers. As the Artistic Director of the featival introduced mr. sedaris as gracious and generous of spirit, signing books after the event and taking questions prior to. Both of which he did. During the evening at the stark podium he read aloud and brought wacky characters and strange senarios to life. A great storyteller, with a hilarious take on things at times. Much enjoyed the event, I would go again. Thank you.

I realize I love David Sedaris. Because he bothered to learn Japanese.

    The Good and Ugly

by ConstipatedToad on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Funny and talented performer. I would have enjoyed a longer show, as it only went on for about 1hr and 20mins and given the price, it seemed expensive especially disappointing that the qustion and answer period was so short and cut off (only 3 questions were allowed) when there was obviously so much interest in he audience. Somewhat ironic when he was introduced as having a love affair with his audience and how much he likes to engage with them. The soundsystem in the Centre was TERRIBLE for the first half of the show. Do not sit on the sides of the theatre as there was a huge echo and it was impossible to follow the dilogue at points.

    Briliant, hilarious, amazing David Sedaris

by ellebee on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Fans of David Sedaris are famously loyal - you hear that he's coming to your town and you make sure you get tickets. For people who aren't sure yet if it would be worth it, it IS. You're guaranteed an evening of brilliant observations, hilarious anecdotes and sheer amazement at the genius that is David Sedaris. I was thrilled that he didn't simply read from his latest book (not because it isn't fantastic, but because I already know it cover to cover and have it on audiobook!), but rather tried out new stories (for the most part) and even shared some of his diary. My only gripe is that the show was not long enough - just over an hour with a quick Q&A. I could listen to him read for hours and hours. And my cheeks hurt at the end because I was laughing so hard. Fab.

    David Sedaris.....hilarious

by Spongebobwriterpants on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

David Sedaris came on stage and had us laughing from begining to end with his bright, witty stories and perfect timing. I have wanted to hear him speak for years and it was worth the wait. But I quarantee it won't be that long before I see him again. I met David after the show and he was engaging and truly interested in his fans, the questions I asked he put thought in and gave me good advice on what I should try as a writer. I can wrap up with evening in 3 words "excellent..excellent...excellent"

    David Sedaris ... daris....

by salopean on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

David Sedaris was brilliantly engaging, insightful, and droll. I felt honored to see America's greatest living literary humorist in person and to hear his wonderful storytelling in person. But the event was marred by the poor acoustics at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts, an annoying echo that throughout the reading made Sedaris difficult to hear clearly, at least toward the back of the theatre where I was sitting, in row VV,

    Clever ad biting humour

by Anonymous on 2009-11-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

David Sedaris is a very funny man. His humour is insightful and at times over the top but not in a vulgar sort of way. He is attentive to his environment and, as he admits, that is often the source of his commentary. He indicated that he is sometimes surprised by what his characters do or say. In other words, his inspirations, most often brilliant, come to him in a flash. It was a very entertaining evening.
