Detroit Pistons History

One of the most storied franchises in NBA history, the Pistons moved to Detroit in 1957 from Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they were owned by Fred Zollner and known as the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons. The Pistons played at Olympia Stadium for four years, then moved to Cobo Arena. In 1974, Bill Davidson purchased the team, and in 1978, the team began playing at the Pontiac Silverdome.

Prior to the start of the 1988–89 season, the Pistons moved to play at The Palace of Auburn Hills and won back-to-back NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990 with the "Bad Boys" teams. Detroit's "Goin' to Work" squad picked up the franchise's third NBA Championship in 2004 in the midst of making six consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.

In addition to the numerous team accomplishments, the Pistons also have had a list of great players and coaches who have contributed to the team's long history of success. Detroit has retired jersey numbers for Chuck Daly (2), Isiah Thomas (11), Joe Dumars (4), Dave Bing (21), Bob Lanier (16), Dennis Rodman (10), Vinnie Johnson (15), Bill Laimbeer (40), Ben Wallace (3), Chauncey Billups (1) and Richard Hamilton (32). Daly, Thomas, Dumars, Bing, Lanier, Rodman and Davidson all have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

    Obstructed View

by Anonymous on 2012-02-21The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

The seats were at center court and second row of the upper section - perfect view except for the camera crews which took up all of row one! Had to watch most of the game from the jumbo screen above center court. Very very disappointed! Emailed the Palace Guest Services with no reply so far. Talked to the Palace Guest Service Supervisor the night of the game but he said he couldn't do much for me. I will never buy these seats again and will think twice about going to the Palace. The seats we had should not be sold when camera crews are working.

    Piston Palace

by Bigticket on 2012-01-23The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

Sports fans lament how poor the Piston organization has become but as a non fan of NBA b-ball i would recommend going to a game. I have been fortunate to go to a game for the past three seasons and I have been entertained each occasion. I find ticket prices reasonable, location is good with lots of $10 parking. TIP Pre-game I ate at a local sports bar and they offered a free shuttle to & from. I will remember that for next time as I had pre-paid parking. I loved the player introductions; that's some serious heat! Great dance and cheer teams, the drum line, the slam dunk show all were great! And lots of free t shirts thrown into the crowd. And best of all the Pistons won!

We purchases amazing seats for the Pistons/Bulls game on Mar 29th through a Pistons presale opportunity....they were a great price and AMAZING seats!! The palace is a great venue, but when you are 3 rows from the court it takes everything to a whole new level!! These tickets were for my brother-in-law who is a HUGE Pistons fan...he was blown away that he was a the game in such premium seats! What a great experience!

    Worth the money.

by Lyn1295 on 2010-02-01The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

The family night package was well worth the money. $100 got all 4 of us: food, t-shirts, bobble heads, and seats at the game. No bad seats in the Palace really - good view from up top. Loud skreetching kids around us was hard on the ears, but a good time.

    Guest Services were amazing

by Sanka on 2009-11-09The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

First, the game was great and we had a fantastic time. I had to use guest services to get to my seat as I was on crutches. Everyone so amazingly nice to us and helped us to a set of seats that were more accessible for me. Then at the end of the game they were right there to help me back to the exit. By far the most friendly staff I've ever come across. Seats were great, the one this with the Palace is even if you are in the very back row, you still have a great view of the game. Will definitely be back, hopefully not on crutches but for sure with more friends!
