    Dirty Dancing

by SEGI on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The backdrops were incredibly imaginative and surprisingly realistic - well done!! The two singers had powerful voices that made me shiver - good job!! Was not impressed with the leads - neither male nor female. Hard to follow a Patrick Swayze performance but the choices, in my opinion, were not strong enough. Was nice to reminisce about the movie I so enjoyed many years ago

Dirty Dancing - Not that great

by Unimpressed2015 on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was really disappointed in the Broadway production of Dirty Dancing. The actors did not emit the right emotions, they seemed almost uninterested and only were reciting lines because that's what their job is. The dance sequences were great but the overall show was "blah".

Dirty Dancing was WAY better than any review.

by softwood04 on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We live in Nova Scotia and travelled to Ottawa to see the show at the NAC. Several of the reviews suggested that we may be disappointed in the acting. The techniques used in the scene settings, and the music and dancing more than made up for any acting handicaps.

    Dirty Dancing was disappointing

by cherryred on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Found the show very 'choppy' - no flow, short scenes, and rushed dialog. Highlight was the singing of In the Still of The Night...wish there was more live singing.

    Dirty Dancing was breath taking!!

by caretaker on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

My daughter and I go to the shows it is counted as our Mother / Daughter time! We enjoy everything from the walk in to the building to the walking up to the top seats in the house as that is what she can afford. We call the walk in our heals our work out session. The first thing we see are the greaters which welcome us to our row. Passing by the excitted faces to our seats we spot the stage, our bodies are now purched on the edge of the seats. The program is checked and then the lights go down here we go...... from start to end we are Dirty Dancing in our seats! What great music, effects and props and boy the show to us was like watching the movie live as it was being taped! To everyone who work from props to lights to actors..... A Job Well Done!!!

    Dirty Dancing

by Eelman on 2015-04-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

A great disappointment with the cast seemingly just saying their lines and moving through the routines mechanically. I just looked like a very tired performance.

    Uplifting and fun performance

by Vanguard2001 on 2015-04-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We were four attending from two generations and all agreed it was a wonderful performance. Just good, wholesome fun and entertaining for us and clearly everyone else in attendance in Ottawa. Great cast and some very special performances. I would recommend this show to everyone!

    Dirty Dancing-disappointing

by Karbar on 2015-04-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I felt that the dancing was minimal and very mechanical, not smooth. There was not nearly enough music for my liking-it was somewhat boring and didn't have any wow moments. Not good value for the money I paid.

    Beware of high expectations

by libertanora on 2015-04-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I love Dirty Dancing, the original cast and their chemistry. I had high expectations for this show , but was disappointed on a few accounts. There was not a lot of signing and dancing as I thought. A bit more dancing but not enough. It was mostly talking, which I felt was unusual for a "musical". Some stories were added (i.e., Baby's parents' relational troubles) and this only added to the length of the show, without being entertaining. As we were leaving the theatre, I heard positive comments from other people, so it might be that I had too high expectations.

Not The Time Of My Life

by Camille11 on 2015-04-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Acting had no enthusiasm at all...very wooden! Dancing was good especially last 10 minutes but found there was no chemistry between actors portraying Johnny and Baby. Singers were awesome though. Sad to say, I wouldn't recommend this version of "Dirty Dancing" to anyone.

    Really Cheesy

by McQuaig on 2015-04-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I think we must have gone in with expectations for this to be a better Broadway adaptation of the movie, and it just wasn't. For what we paid, we expected more. There was very little in terms of singing performances. The dancing performances were good. However, with the lack of full sets it just couldn't generate enough of that full stage theatre impact we expected from an NAC level performance.

    Dirty Dancing disappoints

by SPLover on 2015-04-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Excellent dancing and lead male and female vocals. Marginal acting and frenetic pace with too frequent set changes led to poor character development and unclear relationships. If you go, close your eyes and enjoy the music.

    Dirty-ish Dancing

by Tee007 on 2015-04-18National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Music good. Set good. Dancing...the choreographer didn't really understand the Era of hot jive. Most of the cast seemed like they did a 10 day crash course on "how to dance". The females leads were great, the vocalist was the best - unfortunately the whole musical was dragged down by the male lead. He appeared to be sulking the entire show, lacked passion and you had the feeling he didn't want to be there. Very mis-cast. He was no Patrick Sawayze. He really lacked any kind of swagger. Too bad. Save your money and rent the movie!

    Amazing!

What an incredible show! It couldn't have been better. The cast was so enthusiastic and you could tell how much they were enjoying themselves. Amazing talent in singing, dancing and acting.

    Disappointing production of Dirty Dancing

by Maylyn on 2015-04-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

If it wasn't for the anticipation of the finale song and dance, we probably would have left during intermission. Very low key, low energy, low budget production of what could have been great.

It was a fun night out with friends. Acting was a bit off, but dancing and singing were great.
