    Refreshing, captivating, amazing

by Thank you Jane on 2023-10-20Meridian Hall - Toronto

This is the second time I have seen Dr Jane at this venue. At 89 years old, she was able to grab and hold everyone's attention with her amazing, honest, from the heart delivery. It is amazing that the world has fabulous people like Dr Jane. She has lived everything she speaks about. Far better than many who just talk about things. The world is filled with "preacher"type people, who just hear about things. Dr Jane lives, acts, listens, talks. She is very special. And I am thankful I have been able to hear her. The interviewer was tricky to listen to. Maybe it was a generational thing (I'm 47). But her understanding of Jane's message of hope seemed lost. It was obvious that she was trying to spin things to interest younger audience members. But I wish it was more geared to just let younger people understand Jane's message.

    Interesting but salesy

by Tania on 2023-10-19Meridian Hall - Toronto

It was great to hear Jane tell of her life after highschool and how she was able to accomplish her life long dream of working with animals. I would have preferred more stories about what did she think she was going to learn when she started? What were some of her early hypotheses about these animals? What made these hypotheses change over time? Her early experiences and later experiences and how she changed her views and vision during her time and research, or did she change her views? I did not really enjoy the journalist interviewing Jane as I just wanted to hear more about her research and her life. I also felt there were too many references to donating to the Jane Goodall Institute. I did not go to hear a repetitive sales pitch I went to hear about Jane's adventures and research. But I have wanted to see her speak for years so I can cross this off the bucket list now.

Jane was fantastic. The interview, not so much

by Bex on 2023-10-18Meridian Hall - Toronto

The overall experience of event was good. I tried donating money to the Jane Goodall Foundation through one of the tap machines but it wasn't working properly and there was no one around to help. Seating was tight and the projector screens honestly weren't big enough for people all the way in the back (even those with glasses). Jane was fabulous, what an icon. And the story she told was lovely, funny, and just overall wonderful and inspiring. The interview held by The Narwhal however, was quite poor, which honestly felt disrespectful to Jane. And since the interview was the last part of the event, I left feeling very underwhelmed.

    Kind of good

by Cy on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

I'd like to know more about Dr. Goodall's experience regarding the chimpanzees, her observations, memories etc. She mentioned just a bit. I learned more online about it. The interview was a big mistake, rude and unpleasant. Disappointed.

    Inspired

by Cindy on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

Thoroughly enjoyed listening and learning. Disappointingly enjoyed having her "slay"her interviewer from The Narwhal magazine. Sure put into perspective how the Millennials need to LISTEN when speaking to someone. Especially when the speaker says it's one of life's gifts...to listen to others to create and encourage peace.

Interviewer had a negative impact on presentation

by JayS on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

Dr. Jane Goodall was an amazing speaker - very interesting and inspiring. Overall we were extremely happy that we went to the presentation and would recommend that anyone who has a chance to hear Jane Goodall speak should definitely take advantage of the opportunity. The young interviewer - Fatima- who spoke with Jane during the later part of the evening was extremely negative and self-centered. She contradicted Jane Goodall and tried to make the evening about herself. This interviewer should not be booked again. After the show, we also heard several other groups discussing how rude and unpleasant this interviewer was and how it had a negative impact on their enjoyment of the evening.

    Underwhelmed

by JayG on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

I loved the chance to hear about Dr.(Dame) Jane Goodall! Her history and story is amazingly unique! I was disappointed that we didn't hear more about her research with chimps though I realise her Activism is NOW a priority. I felt like the Q and A time was a request for money as a priority. The choice of journalist was inapproprite in my opinion because she had limited connection with Jane. Her questions and comments were immature. I realise the journalist was connected with the Narwal magazine and one of the sponsors of the evening. If Jane was going to talk about Activism as a priority then I would have like to hear about the various areas she is researching and active with previously and now. We were tempted to walk out when the Q and A started...

    An unexpected speaker

by Kp on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

Dr. Jane Goodall is an incredible woman. It was an absolute pleasure to hear her speak for a second time in my life. I have had the pleasure of meeting and shaking the hand of this woman who deserves everyone's up most respect. The beginning of her speech had me in tears, it was so powerful. However, after listening to Jane's message of hope for a better future, a journalist from The Narwal came on stage to interview Dr. Goodall and it seemed to me that this woman's only goal was to disrespect and challenge Jane Goodall on the main topics of the nights speech. As we looked around the auditorium during this time, MANY people got up to leave. This journalist, in my opinion, was too aggressive in her speech and demeanor, even taking an audience poll to see if anyone was holding on to hope after Jane's speech, belittling the entire night's conversation on maintaining hope and positivity for a better tomorrow. She also made very generalized statements on millennials and young people which were not only incorrect but also derogatory. Comparing her own life to the life of Jane Goodall was the tasteless icing on the cake. Jane Goodall is my hero. Despite the journalist, I still had an incredible evening listening to Jane Goodall speak. She inspires me everyday to make the world a better place, in any way that I can.

    Love Jane

by Traveller on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

What a wonderful, down-to-earth, honest and genuine woman…so sincere…with fun stories and a strong message…able to reach an audience…she is a treasure and how lucky I was to be able to attend her presentation. thanks (In contrast, the interviewer was not a good listener, had her own agenda and was unable to appreciate how to interact with Jane. She was aggressive, unprepared and not a good choice for this honour.)

    Awesome and awe-inspiring

by Gail on 2023-10-15Meridian Hall - Toronto

Awesome and awe-inspiring. Dr. Jane Goddall is so diminutive in stature but so large in life. She is the personification of the difference that one person can make. Her stories will stay with me for a long time and the brief film that she showed at the end was so moving - it will stay with me forever. Gail

    A talk by a legend

    by Eme421 on 2023-10-15

I saw Jane 25 years ago and I would have thought no time had passed at all. She is sharp, clever and filled with fire for the natural world. People need to listen closely to her because she's seen what is happening to our planet first hand. Thank you Jane for sharing your time with us in Toronto.
