About

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

    Eddie was Awesome!!!

by Evilduck on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I still can't believe he came to Winnipeg! I have been listening and watching him for years, and he's even better in person! It's refreshing listening to an intelligent comedian! But yes, he was funny and I saw him in person! Anything he talks about, he makes interesting and funny, even the 'three pigs'! He's great!

    Eddie Izzard was ON!

by Dinofangirl on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Last night was a normal Monday night for most, but for those who chose to attend Eddie Izzard's "Stripped" show at the Burton Cummings Theater, it was anything but. Izzard was on, no doubt of that! His humor is a mix of history, religion, and current affairs, interwoven with his opinion on the way the world perhaps ought to be - certainly, the way the world might work better than it does at present. To my great surprise, this show was not sold out, though I suppose there aren't many in Winnipeg who actually know who Izzard is. I told a lot of people about the upcoming show, and most responded with a blank look and said, "Who??" However, after last evening, I'm sure the word will spread as to just what others missed out on by deciding not to go and at least give him a listen. Two years ago (May, 2008), I drove down to Minneapolis to see Izzard in his U.S. "Stripped" tour, as I was certain that was as close to Winnipeg as he would ever get. Thus, I was thrilled to find out he was coming to Winnipeg for the first time! Needless to say, I hope it won't be the last. Mr. Izzard, please do include Winnipeg as a future tour stop - I am certain that the next time you come through here, it will be to the cheers of a sell-out crowd. ;o)

Eddie Izzard - not my cuppa tea!

by KaLoPo on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

He is just exhausting to watch - bolting all over the stage, making annoying loud sounds with the mic, jumping back and forth from topic to topic, and talking so fast at times, I could hardly understand half of what he said. And there I was, trapped next to the wall, with 7 long-legged people between me and the aisle, wishing he would go to the loo, then take his telly and get on the next lorry to London.

    Fantastic Show

by North54th on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Eddie took the stage right around 8 o' clock performed for an hour and a half, took a short intermission and then came back for more. He was as always sharp, witty and frenetic. The show was amazing. The only two negative points (which were minor for me) I found about the evening were as follows: The crowd in Winnipeg seemed to miss some of the higher brow jokes and they ate up a lot of Eddies clowning around, which by the end of the night it seemed like he picked up on that and pandered a little more in that direction. My only other beef with the show was that at points it seemed a touch preachy, where Eddie was straddling the line between observational comedy and educating the crowd on his beliefs. Those 2 small points aside and the night was absolutely amazing, I really do hope he comes back soon.

Laughed so hard my chest hurt

by IMB316 on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Incredible show. I was excited to hear that Eddie Izzard was coming to Winnipeg as he had never been here before, and he did not disappoint. Although the show was not sold out he had the entire place in stiches and I look forward to him coming here again in the future.

Blasphemy, blas for you... I have always been an Eddie Izzard fan, but his whole "come down now" tirade at the beginning of the show was a bit much, it killed the mood for the rest of the show IMO. Rest of the show was fairly good.

    Awesome Eddie Izzard

by Wpghottie on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Wow what a show, over 2 1/2 hrs of ad-lib comedy ranging from Hitler having his head flicked off by God, to Dinosaurs being pulled over for speeding in a car, to sharks bringing children back to shore in a lost and found rescue................ sooooooo funny

Eddie was in top form. Wonderful show. Don't think he is too well known in Winnipeg though. The show was not sold out!

    Eddie Izzard clever, funny.

by WestWood on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The venue, Burton Cummings an historic theatre always reeks of newly made popcorn with burnt oil and kernels. Even Izzard commented on the assault on his nostrils twicw during his performance. His material is clever, funny and his style is loaded with tangents.

    Eddie Izzard - random thoughts

by captpatton on 2010-05-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Impressive light show and set - especially in the setting of the Walker Theatre in Winnipeg. I’m so impressed he put Winnipeg on his tour and to do his show not in the arena but in such an intimate setting. Eddie you could see had some set material but it kept getting interrupted by so many tangents of thought which sprang to his very quick mind. It makes me think that every show he does must feel unique to each audience. I too am a lover of Wikipedia and DVDs. I can certainly understand why he’s called the lost Python as many of his conversations on stage could easily adapt into a sketch. He’s also very honest on stage, granted everyone in the audience paid to be there or in his words were the self-chosen people, and will be the first to confirm a bit isn’t working. His comedy definitely has a British flair to it, but it looks at our popculture/religious/sillyness everyone with a computer and a DVD player shares. He even finds away to makes fun of Latin and has come up with the brillent idea of a democratic monarchy.

    Eddie Izzard - Bravo!

by Karmina on 2010-01-19Madison Square Garden - New York

I have followed Eddie's performances since 1998 - the first in NYC and many other cities since then. His determination has brought him this far as I knew it would when others doubted it. I have seen at least three versions of Stripped and he put it all together at MSG - absolutely brilliant. In days of old I loved the smaller sets with the autographs and Q&A's after the shows and I'm hoping he will return to the smaller venues in the future. His wit and talent astound and amaze. No matter how many times I see his performances and hear similar variations of his story lines he manages to bring a freshness to them that never fails to entertain. Well done! We would love a repeat performance in Toronto some time soon....you have a major fan base north of the border.

Fantastic show. He was in front of the crowd for almost two full hours with a 15 minute intermission. Hilarious show, very entertaining. Will go again to see him anytime he is within driving or short flight distance!

    Eddie - well done!~

by Siesta on 2010-01-11United Center - Chicago

Didn't know quite what to expect from the new show. Eddie has some spots that needed work and revision (he even said so himself) but for the most part it was pure Eddie - and quite funny! Loads of anti religious references left a few people squirming - but his historical references and knowledge of events of the past were fired off in quick form to prove his point - with VERY good humor. The show was long (2 hours plus an intermission) and lagged in just a few spots. But I could have listened to another 2 hours. This man is truly unique, talented and hilarious!!
