Edmonton Oilers History
The origin of the Oilers goes back to 1972, when they were one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association. Once the league folded in 1979, they were one of four teams absorbed into the National Hockey League. It didn't take long for them to establish dominance in the league, reeling off five Stanley Cup Championships in seven years. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most championships since the NHL-WHA merger.
The Oilers of the '80s were a phenomenal dynasty with a roster that reads like the Hockey Hall of Fame: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, plus a stellar supporting cast. Gretzky scored 92 goals in 1982, breaking Phil Esposito’s record for number of goals in a single season. He also recorded a record 215 points in 1985. During his time with the Oilers as centre and team captain, Gretzky led the team to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988). By the time Gretzky finished his time with the Oilers, he held or shared a total of 49 NHL records.
In all, the Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final seven times.

Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place
NHL superstar Connor McDavid and NHL legends Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier opened the doors to the spectacular Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton in October 2016. McDavid and his Edmonton Oilers bring excitement to Rogers Place nightly, with the statue of The Great One standing guard just outside. The state-of-the-art Rogers Place replaced the aging Rexall Place, and resulted in an explosion of business and residential growth in downtown's ICE District.
The Edmonton Oilers’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, when the Oilers face off against the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers take on Alberta rivals the Calgary Flames in the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on October 29. The team plays their final game of the regular season at home against Western Conference opponents the Colorado Avalanche. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

excellent game.
Wow. First NHL game seen live and the season opener. Awesome. The pre-game was fantastic. It added to my first game experience. I had my son with me. His first live game also. We hung around until 11:30 p.m to thank the players and hoped to get an autograph on my son's Oilers shirt. It got too late and nobody showed. What a memorable night. It was everything I wanted it to be for my son. What a great game. Both teams did a great job.
Awesome pre-game show to kick off the season! Great rivalry between the Oilers and Flames. Too bad for the Oilers loss!
Haven't been to a game for a while but this game was amazing! The Oiler organization have really improved alot of things. The pre game show was fantastic...I know it was the season opener but it was great...too bad the outcome of the game wasn't better but things happen.
awesome game with a great ending, Oilers win in OT. Hope they have a great year
Had to see how the Oil looked this year under new coaching under Pat Quinn. They look good. Wanted to see Comrie fall on his face but he seems to be sucking up as expected with two goals and 10"ish"pts in the pre-season. As usual, our special teams are "hurting units" getting scored on 3 out of 4 or 5 times at bat. We are doing great in 5 on 5 play but fall completely apart in power play and penalty killing. HELP US PAT!!!!
I really enjoyed all aspects of the game we went to. The seats were not only affordable but also presented us with good sight lines from which to watch the game. Very glad we went.
Game was good. lots of people and the crowd got into it. would definitally go again.
This was a fantastic experience for my two sons. It was thier first opportunity for an NHL game and probably thier only because regular season ticket prices are way too expensive for me. AWESOME FUN!
i had a awsome time.. great game!!! definately would recomend to friends!
We sat right behind the glass for the Edmonton/Vancouver game and it was awesome. To have a guy checked against the glass that's half a foot from your face is kickass. If you can afford it, get gold seats cuz they're awesome.
Awesome game. Oilers fans are always a fun bunch and Rexall is a great venue.
The game was great and the most amazing thing was that after regular time just before the beginning of overtime they showed my daughter and her spanish exchange student on the big screen. We have a student from Spain staying with us.
Oilers always give a good show. Their high energy hard hitting hockey always entertains.
Ok, so we lost , but being pre season... Edmonton , did pretty darn well, Cormie is direct, focused and willing to show that he is aiming to play good here at home. the new guy" Jaques: , already showing the tough guy image, a few words and a little touch and go fight in the game,. but he is young , and ready to go! I think this is going to be hard to cut back to 10 ,,, but the game was full with fans cheering, and happy that the NHL is back and running. Pat Quinn has his work cut out for him!! wonder what Mactavish will have to say ???
For a pre season game it was pretty exciting! They played all their starters, there were 4 goals scored in the first period, and a fight so it was definatley entertaining. The final score was 5-3 for Calgary. Being an oilers fan I was a little disappointed but overall any battle of Alberta will be a good game!
The players are not the only ones that need a few games of practice, the ref needed some experience or a pair of glasses, some calls were bad, some of the none calls were worse, like the high stick, watch the tapes guys
Love going to Oilers games with the family, great entertainment. Energy and fan encouragement great to participate in.
The game was great even though we didn't win. Amazing turnout for a preseason game. I'll be there again on the 19th to cheer on our team!
