  • Like listening to an angel sing!

by rustybook on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Emmylou is in a class all her own. She owns the audience from her first note to the last. Her unique voice portrays the story in the song like no other performer. I have never heard a singer over the years sing such sweet harmony. Her Red Dirt Boys are amazing musicians, and put out a sound that is 'real' country at it's finest. Buddy Miller was a compliment to the evening. The only negative was the volumn on the instrumentals was a little too loud at times to hear some of Emmylou's vocals.

  • Emmylou & Her Red Dirt Boys were fantastic

by Aquarian on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed Buddy Miller's performance, but the highlight of course was Emmylou and her band's performance. Personally, I was enthralled throughout. A great mix of songs played and sung by talented musicians.... An evening we will never forget.

  • Emmy Lou's sound was awful

by lutherm on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

The opening act Buddy Miller was very good, he just used his quitar and voice and the sound was reasonable. When Emmy Lou came on with all the band the sound quality was awful. We could not hear her voice or the words over the very powerful bass quitar and amplication of the instruments. That loud bass quitar spoiled our whole evening. I noticed that a number of people left during the intermission and even during the actual evening. I was also disappointed that she didn't sing more of her blue grass gospel style of music with just her voice being heard.

  • Emmylou was fantastic!

It was a lovely venue, great sound and fantastic music! No splashy extras taking away from a comfortable and most enjoyable evening. We left the show wanting more.

  • Emmylou does it all

It was a great concert. My only criticism is that at times the music was too loud for the vocals but Emmylou and all the guys were fantastic.

  • Emmylou - sweet still

by Munlaw2 on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Emmylou Harris played Calgary's old Palace movie stage in 1979 (now a massive hockey focused bar) and brought a different act and look to Calgary's upscale Jack Singer Hall 30 years later. It was a mature and at ease Emmylou, backed up by Buddy Miller and his band (rebranded The Red Dirt Boys in support of Emmylou), that enthralled the predominantly silver haired and appreciative Calgary crowd through a combined 2 and a half hour set. The only disappointment was the occasionally muddied sound on Emmylou's vocals, surprising given that the venue is a classical music hall with refined acoustic finishings. Buddy Miller, as the opening act, made light of his triple bypass surgery earlier this year, playing relaxed and skillful tunes that showcased his talents prior to his settling into his supporting role for the balance of the show.

  • Emmylou concert - A Night of Beauty

by Cookiemaker on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Emmylou's voice was like good, old scotch and velvet - a mix of sultry and warm, soft and deep, lusty and mellow. I have been loving her and listening to her for 35 years and she has never sounded so beautiful. The night was a sequence of one incredibly beautiful song after another. Opening with the irrepressible Buddy Miller who sang his heart out with a soulful assortment of stirring music. The band was TIGHT!! Wonderful musicians, all, who rocked the room. Phenomenal accoustics at Jack Singer, by the way. The sound was rich and pure and clean and masterful. Probably the best concert I have ever been to in my life!! Emmylou, I love you! You are the real deal.

  • Excellent show

Great show - EmmyLou was amazing as usual and Buddy Miller was really really good. And the acoustics were excellent. The Jack Singer is such a nice venue. Well worth the money.

  • sound distortion

by reddeerfan on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Loved Emmylou. I was hoping to hear a few more recognizable tunes Also would have liked to hear a few more snippets of her life. What was with the sound in the Jack Senger? Some sound distortion noted.

  • Emmy & Boys Superb!

by Pookyslifepartner on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I had never heard of Buddy Miller before. probably saw his name on album credits , back in the day, but good God! what a player! what a singer! man's a monster! tough act to follow for Ms. Harris. best piece of the night for me was a duet with Buddy. then the main event... more mellow, but superb music of the highest caliber. these folks are the best in their genre of music! Emmylou is a lovely person who sings like an angel with a fabulous talented, experienced band of friends to support her. cheers, P's lp

  • Amazing harmonies by Emmylou and Red Dirt Boys

by QQQQ on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Firstly we were so impressed with Buddy Miller!!! The songs where he is the lead and Emmylou backup...fabulous! Emmylou.....with her singing style and perhaps where we were located, far left orchestra, was difficult to make out many of the words to her songs. The group's vocal harmonies were outstanding in their nearly 2 hour performance. Overall a great concert.

  • Emmylou and Her Buddy

by Amarok on 2009-11-12Jack Singer Concert Hall (ECPA) - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

It just doesn't get any better than this. Emmylou Harris much better than last visit when she was backed by Carolina Star. Buddy Miller and Red Dirt Boys provided superb backup. Buddy Miller - what can I say, would pay the same to see him and him alone

  • Loved the show!

Would have been nice to hear "This is Us" but both Buddy Miller and Emmylou and her Red Dirt Boys were very entertaining.
