Great production; Ricky Martin is great, unfortunately I did not like the actress in the title role. I did not like her voice and her presence on the stage is not strong enough. Good ensemble and great dancing and obviously great music.
My girlfriend and I attended Evita in NYC...The show was spectacular. The piece was well displayed with passionate singers and dancers. The entire crew delivered an amazing show where at times it felt like you belong during the Argentina "era"! Just two words can best describe the play...SUPERB & REALISTIC!!!
Enjoyed much of Evita. Ricky Martin was enjoyable and brought the character to life. The staging was good and productions fit into the story. Unfortunately Elena Rogers really had problems singing - her voice was shrill and brassy. I cringed through most of her numbers. Her accent was also annoying to my spouse. Why is it so difficult to find good female leads. The mistress sang better than the lead.....
My daughter and I a great Andrew Lloyd Weber fans and this performance of Evita was amazing. We would have gone to see it again the following night.
I saw Evita in Toronto thirty years ago, it was amazing. I saw it in Ottawa four years ago, it was pathetic. I would place this around 7-8 out of 10. Ricki Martin could have shown a bit more passion as Che.
The music, the dancing, the voices, and the incredible passion won us over for an incredible evening of Broadway theatre. I saw Evita many years ago in a regional production, but nothing can compare to what I saw last week.
Evita was an amazing experience and the highlight of our NYC visit. We are great Andrew Lloyd Webber fans and love what the theatre did with his musical. The set, the costumes and the whole atmosphere were so well done. The actors were great!
The play was well acted. The set was excellent. Ricky Martin was wonderful... wish he had done a half hour concert at the end. However... the lead female who played Evita does not have English as her first language. I understood less than 10% of what she sang or said. I could understand everyone but her. It was very, very frustrating... especially at $200 per ticket. If Spanish is your first language and you understand a heavily acccented speech (song) you might be ok, but otherwise I'd suggest you save your monay or look elsewhere. (We also saw War Horse - exscellent!!)
Very flat performance. Fun to see Ricky Martin as always but he was not outstanding but did a fine job. EVITA was miscast often screeching and missing the target. She had a few good moments and I understand what they were after but they missed it. Seen the production 3 different times over the years and this fell very very short of expectation. Male lead was fine not amazing.
