Wonderful experience along with a team of actors who just delighted us with their talent!! CHAPEAU BAS!!!!
Not having read the book, I didn't know what to expect in this play. The director did a wonderful job telling the story as it extended over many time periods, interweaving the scenes in a thought provoking fashion, with sometimes subtle suggestions of unseen events. The actors were were very compelling and entertaining and I struggled to choose any that stood out above the others. Incredible vocals in the musical performances! Loved every minute!
Six hours over two nights never dragged. Intense performances and (spoiler alert) a brilliant introduction of a character late in the show tied it all together. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Kudos to all in the production - behind the scenes and on the stage.
I really enjoyed the 2 parts. I’d never been to a 2-part play before, and it was so old. I did find the first night a little choppy compared to the book - I felt so many important parts had been left out - but that was all made up for on the 2nd night. I thought the actors were wonderful. Great casting choices. And the fact that many played 2 or more roles was incredible.
This play was fantastic - heavy subject matter told in a way that had funny moments and great music. The acting was incredible. We did two nights back to back which we enjoyed. Highly recommended!
This is a commitment to see 6 hrs of theatre but it was worth it. Incredibly talented cast brought humour and music to this dark story. After the first show I kept thinking about the characters and I was excited to visit them again the second night. So glad I got to see it. Bravo 👏
Absolutely loved it! It was a great adaptation of a favourite book, well done.
From the cast to the stage management, to the story of course, this was a masterpiece. Held entirely true to the book.
I read parts of the novel before seeing the play, which helped me to understand more. The play was nicely adapted, and I realize how nearly impossible a job it is to adapt a novel for the stage. The author has written beautifully, and the reader has the privilege of learning about the inner life of the characters, which is not possible on the stage. I wonder if playwrights can show us more about the inner struggle of James, and the torment that he felt. I did not feel a great deal of empathy for him, and I wanted to....
While the entire performance was 6 hours (two three-hour sessions) it moved along at an excellent pace and was always interestingly. Excellent acting, staging, music and of course story. A complex plot line, yet marvellously clear, revelations released in layers through the performance(s). Highly recommended.
