High Calibre Matches - IMPRESSIVE U-20!

by Brusselsprout on 2014-08-12Moncton Stadium / Stade de Moncton - Moncton

We were lucky to assist a double-bill attended by 4600 fans. I think that we were all surprised by the high calibre of these players which even seemed greater than the women's Canada-China pre Olympic match we saw in 2012 in the seniors. In the first game, English player Bethany Mead scored a goal from one third of the pitch that was like a missile. I kid you not, I was watching TSN this morning and it made the highlight reel for plays of the WEEK among the male football, baseball and tennis stars. The English goalie was equally impressive in a 1-1 tie vs Mexico. The second game had great ambiance with a pumped Nigerian contingent in the stands that had a band that played upbeat music all the way through. It must have been a factor in their 2 to 1 win, when they scored the first goal during the 15 first seconds of the whistle, setting up the tempo of the first half until a momentum shift in the second in a tight game against Korea.

    Improvements needed for next year

by SDHN on 2014-08-12Moncton Stadium / Stade de Moncton - Moncton

The game was great. The venue and the parking situation - not so much. We were told no parking would be available on site, so we used the shuttle service at a cost of $10 per person, expecting that we would at least get door to door service. Instead we were dropped off at the edge of campus a significant distance from the actual stadium (my guess is 1km or so). Not a big deal for me but others in my party were elderly and had mobility issues. Our same shuttle dropped off a woman with a cane. No provisions were made to assist with transporting those individuals from the dropoff location to the actual stadium (although plenty of golf carts were being driven around by security guards). Then we discovered the campus parking lots were basically empty and parking was available. We were also, inexplicably, barred from reentry if we wanted to leave the stadium between games. As the wait was going to be over an hour, this really made no sense. Others on our bus made similar observations. I want to attend the games next year, so I really hope these issues will be addressed.

    Canada vs Finland was close!

by Anonymous on 2014-08-11National Soccer Stadium / Stade National de Soccer - Toronto

The GHA v PRK match was a bit funny. First half, the referee tripped over something and was subbed off. That game was hard to follow with the strong rays of the sun in my eyes the entire match. I was on the other side of the big building with the TORONTO writing on the seats. The Canada v Finland game was heated up. First half Finland scored 2 goals making all the Canadian fans have a doubt in a Canadian win. Second half Canada went totally insane and scored 3 goals against Finland winning the game. The stadium was clean, the food was good. I would definitely consider the BMO field a great stadium. Just remember the weather, and your seating to be prepared for the sun or rain if it shows up.

aThe best event ever in Toronto

by Aponkye on 2014-08-11National Soccer Stadium / Stade National de Soccer - Toronto

it was a nice experience to be live at a sports stadium for the second time. it was not advertised nor promoted so half of the Ghanaian community weren't aware at all. those of us who came out really showed love and support to both teams and organizers. i hope we can do this for Toronto FC when they play at BMO field. i am well connected to the African media and will make sure i inform them of any event. Our singing and chanting made a lot non Ghanaians dance and that was the lovely moment! it sad Ghana wont plat in Toronto anymore for the rest of the games. In all, it was fun and I am happy tickets were bought. I was happy i bought 8 tickets and gave 7 to invited guests and forced to show up which they all did. CANADA should show more LOVE to SOCCER, host some friendly matches like EUROPEAN countries do

The Ghana fans really gave the event its flavour. They were partying even when their team went down. Then, they hung around and cheered for Canada.

Many thought Korea vs Ghana fixed

by spoonman on 2014-08-11National Soccer Stadium / Stade National de Soccer - Toronto

Firstly, the seats were amazing good view of all the action. Secondly, the Korea vs Ghana game was very one sided as far as yellow cards were concerned. The ref ignored all the hair pulling, jersey grabbing that Korea did to Ghana but when Ghana retaliated they got yellow carded. Many thought the Korea vs Ghana game was fixed because of it. I tend to think that too. The canada vs finland game was fair. Refs missed stuff evenly on both sides to keep the game flowing. Both teams played very well. Enjoyed it very much.

    Canada's comeback!!!

by Soccer7 on 2014-08-11National Soccer Stadium / Stade National de Soccer - Toronto

We came from Ottawa to see the match. The atmosphere was exciting :). The first match was good between Ghana and Korea. The Ghana fans were a highlight for our family. They sang and danced the whole game and did the same thing for the Canada - Finland game. The Canada team started off slow and were down by 2 goals in the 1st half. They came out a totally different team in the 2nd half. They scored 3 goals to win the game.:). It was fun to see all the red and white.:)

Terrific venue...not a bad seat in the place. Food selection however was a bit limited...not many "healthy items" and the beverage selection too was limited - beer or cider....Great day, great match and awesome outcome..GO CANADA
