  • FKA Twigs was mesmerizing - a true star

Before the show even starts you know you're in for something: the smokey stage, the spotlit drums, the slight wiff of incense burning. The room quickly filled up and when the lady hit the stage. Her attitude, fierce eyes and silky red two piece night gown trailing: a spectacle. Sparse minimalist beats were executed by a unique backing band: 3 percussionists on electronic kits triggering, samples and laying the pulse for her impossibly soft soprano. Before the first chorus we were all hooked. She ran through a collection of her well known songs and most of her newly released LP with many pauses for dramatic dance set pieces to show off her training and take the audience into even further heights of intoxication. They are all short, sparse back drops for her delicate croon and her amazing dancing. They all start softly, swell and underwhelm and seem to end way to soon. The only knock would be that the songs were not all equal to 'Papi Pacify' which brought the house down and 'Water Me' which was thrilling but we hardly cared. If she ever achieves another level or two in her song writing the whole world will be worshiping her like we were. It was like Aaliyah had returned with the street cred of a Brixton homegirl and the flawless Grace of a ballerina. J'adore!
