About

Rising British-Guyanese rapper Loyle Carner’s sound is a convergence of his BRIT School education (the campus that produced Adele and Amy Winehouse) and the grittiness of the grime genre. The British rapper’s earnest lyricism and jazz-infused productions are inspired by his heroes across the pond: Common, Yasiin Bey, and Nas. Carner’s influences can be heard on his 2017 debut album Yesterday’s Gone, which was nominated for a Mercury Prize and was named album of the year by The Independent. His third album hugo (produced by American DJ/producer Madlib) was released in October 2022 to positive reviews, with The Guardian calling the album a “beautiful, blistering masterpiece.” Carner — who has also supported Nas and Joey Bada$$ live — performed a show-stealing set at Glastonbury 2023 that set the stage for his first North American tour, which kicks off in October.
