Franklin and the waste of time

by NicHeat on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Franklin show was a waste of time. I don't mind paying the money for children's shows, but not when they bore my children. The songs were not upbeat, and the show was slow. We did like the costumes, and the simple sets.

    Franklin live

by alpatjk on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My girlfriend and I took our five yr olds to "Franklin" in Calgary. The overall performance was good; it entertained our kids. The characters' performances were top notch. The costumes/wardrobe - excellent! The t-shirts available for sale were of topnotch quality - pricey as usual ($20). Things we would like improved on were: - extremely disappointed the characters' voices were not those of the original t.v. cast - the sound quality - too quiet at times to hear performance - would be great to include audience participation with only those who purchased lights - the inclusion of the mice - why? - the trubador's singing voice - great! would have liked if he actually played something on the mandolin while singing rather than just carrying it around - too long of an intermission (20mins.) - the natives were very restless & had a hard time re-focusing on the play - the crow's song ('misunderstood' - when sitting on her nest) was too long & slow - needed something catchier to bring back children's attention after such a long intermission - did not understand why no photographs could be taken? suggest no "flash photography" instead or have postcard(s) of key scene(s) available to distribute upon exit of the theatre

Franklin - Not worth the money!

by LannyB on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This production was awful right from the start. It couldn't keep the kids attention for a minute. The songs were bad and the bird was extremely scary. For the kind of money that was charged, I expected a first rate production. This was like grade 5's putting on the show. I will never again part with my money again too see one of these productions again.

    Great kids show

by yycmom on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Franklin was a great afternoon out for kids. Most kids were 3-6 years old. The show was a nice mellow affair featuring a story which taught the values of friendship, sharing, loyalty and compassion. The songs that were sung were catchy and kids were encouraged to clap along. The storyline was easy to follow, even for the smallest spectators. Overall a really great "theatre" experience for the whole family... My son is still talking about it.

    Good show

by SpencersParents on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

It was a good experience. I do wish it was alittle more interactive with the kids, but overall it was nice to see my son so excited when Franklin appeared on the stage.

    Franklin

by momto2boys on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The performances were great, but the show was only 90 min (including a 15 min intermission), and so not worth the $32 pe ticket.

    Would recommend but too expensive

by Mic11797 on 2010-04-11Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

For kids 3 and up this was a good show. First part was 40 minutes then a 20 minutes break then 30 minutes more. The first 40 minutes were quick moving and entertaining the second part was full of slow songs that the children had no patience for. The sets were pretty sad but the actors were entertaining and did their job well. The price should have been 24.95 instead of the 37.50 we ended up paying. It was a good show for the kids and our 3 1/2 year old enjoyed it alot but I don't believe it was memorable.

    Franklin was amazing!

by haywire on 2010-04-10TCU Place - Saskatoon

I recently took my 3 yr old daughter to the Franklin show. She absolutely loved it. The singing, costume, and story line were all excellent. We've been to a couple of shows with her but by far the best show... A must see! Only thing at would have been nice would be a meet and greet with characters.

Music was too melancholy and slow. Kids lost interest by the break. Will not take kids to this again.

Stage setup for design of theatre wasn't the best especially with a young child. Product for sale was cash only, that was a problem. Overall not a bad experience.

    Franklin was "Blueberries"

by DadGreat on 2010-04-08TCU Place - Saskatoon

The family enjoyed the story/play very much. Characters where played excellent. Fun and enjoy to watch something with so much happiness and smiles. Kept the interest of the three year old for the whole show, and the six year old focused and entertained with the story to the end. Great job done by all.

    Franklin was Funtastic !!

by Shanaganne on 2010-04-08TCU Place - Saskatoon

I have to say that Franklin and the Noble Nights was a fabulous work of art, it really was alot of fun. All of the acters should get a big round of applause. The only thing that would have made it a 5 star was getting those mice some well deserved costumes! they were on the go through the whole play and someone should take the time to either sew new costumes or buy them for 32.00 bucks a pop for a ticket !! The piper sang beautifully and the songs had a very good theme to them. The bird costume was very detailed and she pulled it off, what a great story line for kids at this age. Truly my kids couldn't take their eyes of off the stage and they are 5 & 4. Great Job!!!

Children in Audience Talking too Loudly

by OnMyOwn on 2010-04-08TCU Place - Saskatoon

We really enjoyed the concert. We were fortunate to have seats in the fourth row and we were able to hear the actors. However, I was at the Franklin Christmas concert 1.5 years ago and we were sitting 2/3 back on the main floor. The noise from all the children talking was so loud at times that we couldn't hear the play. I noticed that at this event there were a lot of talking as well.I was wondering if anyone else was bothered by this? Now before, you critisize me that this was a kids event. I realize that it's impossible for kids to be quiet BUT common curtesy would be to at least wisper and to try and minimize the talking.

The bird (Marie) was a little scary at first and the voices of the characters were quite different from the TV show but the kids loved it.

Pretty good for young children. Slightly cheesy; sometimes the puppets were out of sync with the prerecorded soundtrack; but again, little children might not notice that. Overpriced for a family show with no special effects; don't know that I would pay the $33/ticket again for that production. I've done it twice now, this time hoping the Franklin show might be a little better than the first time we saw it. One other disappointment: merchandise!!! Little selection & poor quality. When the kids decided upon the light wand, we shelled out $10 for this. What's more; the TINY Franklin sticker on it fell off before we even were back at our seat so we then had a ten dollar generic light wand. Disappointing.
