Bitter Sweet
by MethenyFan on 2013-10-04Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasHaving never seen the Grateful Dead before, I was really looking forward to seeing Furthur. & we specifically flew from Canada to Las Vegas for this show. Furthur did two sets. I quite liked the 1st set, with gems such as Dupree's Diamond Blues being the highlight for me. The 2nd set rambled on too much for my tastes, with long jams that seemed to go no where. The band was tight, especially John Kadlecik & Joe Russo who played incredibly well. Phil was phil, as good as he's ever been, imo. The weak link was Bob Weir. He seemed bored & out of it. His playing was sloppy & devoid of inspiration & he was struggling to play some of his parts, with wrong & partially played chords ringing out more than a few times. He was stoic throughout the show & really didn't seem like he wanted to be there, or was wasted out of his mind & in another realm other than the stage. Either way, it was a fun show, & this is about as close to seeing the Dead as I will probably ever come to. I hope Bob is well & this was just an off night. He's not that old & there is really no excuse for how poorly he performed.
