Ten-time Grammy-award winning artist, George Benson, has the rare distinction of being in the pop consciousness while remaining in the pantheon of jazz greats. With 36 studio albums, and 8 live albums, Benson has emerged a household name best known for the 1976 three-time Grammy-winning album, Breezin', boasting the pop-jazz vocal smash "This Masquerade," which topped the jazz, pop, and R&B charts. The album remains one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, and has since been certified 3x platnum. His 1980 soul-pop gem, "Give Me The Night," produced by Quincy Jones and written by Rod Temperton (Michael Jackson), summited to the top of the soul single charts. In 2009, Benson was awarded the NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship-- the highest honor that our nation bestows on jazz artists.Â
Benson is a consummate performer and an adventurous instrumentalist who remains an annual must-see artist. He regularly packs and sells out such hallowed venues as The Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, Hampton Court Palace, and Sydney Opera House. Benson is also a marquee artist at many U.S. jazz and international festivals, including Montreux Jazz Fest and NOJF, Umbria and North Sea to name a few.
Benson's recent accomplishments are varied and aplenty. He collaborated with subversive art- pop band, Gorillaz, featuring Blur's Damon Albarn, to co-write and perform on the track "Humility," which has amassed over 100 million YouTube views and counting. In 2021, DJ Steve Aoki remixed Benson's hit "Give Me The Night," with a rugged house beat introducing the irresistible R&B-pop gem to a whole new audience. He was interviewed by Youtube sensation, Rick Beato, earning 900K views in 3 weeks. His recent albums have earned features and rave reviews in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, American Songwriter, Forbes, Billboard and Newsweek. In 2020, Benson was inducted to jazz bible DownBeat Magazine's Hall Of Fame. The following year he was inducted by music legend Quincy Jones into New Jersey's Hall Of Fame-- an honor from which he received a personal congratulatory note from President Obama.Â

Was a great experience. Everyone was very friendly, dancing and having fun! George was wonderful aswell
George Benson was amazing. His vocals, guitar playing, and charisma have only improved with age. The on stage lighting was very poor with the right side almost in darkness.
Thé concert was amazing! One of my favourite artists with an incredible band!
My parents absolutely loved the performance, and the venue. They described it as a intimate but vibrant show!
Music was excellent and the venue is so beautiful and very well organized.
This was by far one of the best performances I have ever seen. As an avid George Benson fan, heading him perform all of his hits in such an intimate setting was unbelievable. Amazing instrumentals, outstanding vocals all around. Hoping he comes back to Toronto soon to see him again!
I uaws ro vw big fan. George Benson should have passed on this concert. His voice was off and his guitar playing was off. This is not the quality of performance that the Jazz Festival should be booking. I would not go to see him again.
Great concert. Excellent venue. george still has it!
Mr. George Benson put on a wonderful show. All the hits, great story-telling, lots of fun. So glad I went!
So happy to have seen him again. The theatre was a nice touch, rather than an outside venue.
What a great evening. Benson delivered all of the music that makes him a living legend. Outstanding band. Loved every minute of it!
This performance by the legendary Benson was a joyful experience for my spirit and memories from 1976!!
He was pushing it. Not what he used to be. Needed to take breaks. OK, we are all getting older - but the choreography seemed fractured to account for personal needs. Just being honest.
We've seen George Benson several years ago and he was amazing. Sadly his voice is gone and he has difficulty with many of his old hits. Back up singers helped a lot. The sound system at the Elgin concert was very disappointing and backup sound was muffled and too loud, so singing was hard to hear.
Walle put on a great show to start, then George came out and went pretty much non stop for about 2 hours. Played all the greats and some I hadn't heard before, but everything was very enjoyable. George is a great entertainer and he really put it on for Winnipeg.
It was a great event! It was full and people enjoyed it. For an event such as this, it could have been staged at a better venue. It was too humid and seats were too close to each other making knees bump. Overall, this was a fun concert and George Benson did not disappoint Hope to see him again!
Hard-working band and great sound! Good mix of old and new+opportunity for audience participation. Thanks for bringing in this treat!
Great playing by an accomplished artist, George Benson, and his support group of two keyboards, a base, another guitar and a drummer. Really liked the complementary meshing of the band and the choice of music, which showed off Benson's guitar and singing voice. However, I did not bring any musician's ear plugs, and the level of sound reduced my enjoyment of the concert very much. Rock concert sound levels don't flatter jazz presentations, in my opinion, because jazz music is more refined and artistic. Not sure why George would want his music presented that way, but I suspect that a rock concert style is more appealing to the masses. My playing George Benson on my sizable stereo at home portrays better his talent than a too loud, live concert. Wally Larson was his usual accomplished self, However, is it me, or does the band play as if they are competing with each other rather than supporting a common musical endeavor? The drummer, in particular, was too often an obnoxious presence in the face of the musicality of the presentation.
Both Geroge Benson and Winnipeg's own, Walle Larsson are amazing musicians! I could have danced all night to the beat! Wish there were more events like this through out the year.
