Polished conventional production
by Operaholic on 2012-12-24The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - VancouverHaving seen more Nutcrackers than I can recall over the years, I was pleasantly surprised by this production. The staging is straightforward and takes no risks, but the dancers were well-rehearsed, the choreography generally polished, and Clara was surprisingly good considering her youth. The orchestra was a bit thin, under-rehearsed and poorly miked, and the dry acoustics of the theatre didn't help, but Tchaikovsky's remarkable score managed to survive more or less intact. It was generally a pleasant, if overpriced, evening.
