Grease was unnecessarily sexual & vulgar.

by dure on 2009-07-16Fisher Theatre - Detroit

I was disappointed in the shock-value that the producer/director felt necessary to add into this theatre production. The music & theatre presentation was fabulous enough that there was no need for the swear words, excessive sexual gestures, and flipping of the bird (shooting the finger). These were totally unnecessary. I brought my 11 & 9 year old & was mortified. Had we not come with guests - I would have left at intermission & NOT returned. Individuals humping the bumper of a car & a middle of the stage scene of a gentleman humping a girl laying of the floor - had no part in the movie I saw as a teen. It is sad that they felt it necessary to enhance this great movie with ignorant gestures & comments. There were several pre-teen children in the audience & it was disgusting that there was no warning in advance.

    Grease was great!

by Loraine on 2009-07-15Fisher Theatre - Detroit

I loved the performance and recommend it to anyone was has ever been a fan of the movie and soundtrack. The warm-up by Vince Fontaine really got the audience primed for the show. I thought all the performers were very good, especially the female cast members, although Vince's character was the best. Travolta and Newton-John will always be tops and unbeatable, but this was the next best thing.

    Not for the whole family

by smashmama on 2009-07-15Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

I wasn't overly impressed by any of the performances in this play, I didn't think the singing was terrific, and the actors seemed absent and overdone at the same time. As far as bringing the whole family to this show, forget it! Lots of swearing, rude sex talk, etc. I had read they were supposed to show a little more of how "tough" Rydell High was than they showed in the movie, but it seemed the main purpose of the entire show was to show how juvenile and rude these characters could be. I wasn't impressed. Big hoopla centered around Rizzo's pregnancy as well, so if you've got kids under the age of talking about that, you won't want to bring them. Taylor Hicks was part of the show as well, and there was much talk about him and buzz when he appeared. But I have to say he was not impressive. Overall, lots of expense for a disappointing show.
