    Greenbelt-it out loud

by Diji on 2013-09-09Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

With or without Neil Young and Crazy Horse, this festival never ceases to please. It's a great family event and equally, as an adult you can party until your brain melts and never really run into children. The food was AWESOME !!!! The vendors and agriculture/greenbelt tents were full of information, fun surprises and some really amazing unique products. Even though the festival lasts about 12 hours I'm always surprised the day has passed so quickly when the final act comes to an end. Leaving the event is orderly and efficient - considering the number of people who attend. It would be GREAT if there was a bus option though from nearby hotels so people could drink if they wanted and not worry about having to drive.

Thank god the arkells turned it up

by Graysoul on 2013-09-08Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Approximately ten days prior to the big show Neil Youmg backed out because his guitarist hurt his hand??? A partial refund and Gordon Strokefoot could never fill the void of disappointment of not experiencing the timeless and one of a kind show that Neil Young performs. If not for the Arkells it would have been a snooze fest. Spacious park, nice lake.. Okay music. Still reeling from the utter disappointment of no Neil Young.

Greenbelt Harvest Picnic Not Worth the Money Paid

by SadIMissedNeil on 2013-09-07Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

We wanted to attend the Festival to see Neil Young. We were disappointed that he cancelled his concert, but attended part of the Festival despite our disappointment. The talent we saw was mediocre. The vendors often had the same items for sale -- tomatoes and garlic. However, the food we ate was good -- sausages. Overall, we felt the Picnic was over priced and rather boring. In the future if the main act cancels, it would be wonderful if you gave people an option to get a full refund.

    Won over

by DCarp on 2013-09-03Christie Lake - Flamborough

Like many people, I bought tickets primarily to see NY&CH. Disappointed but willing to give it a shot. Arrived by 12:30PM, left at 12:30AM and enjoyed the day thoroughly. Great weather, great food, great beer, fair prices for food and beer at a festival. Lots of good music and some absolutely exceptional musicianship. A few slow spots where I just wasn't into it but that happens at a 12 hour show. The evening set by Lanois was fantastic and the decision for him to close instead of Lightfoot was 100% the right one. Lanois and his band provided exactly what draws me to CH - the opportunity to completely lose myself in music. I've got to think that anyone that appreciates what CH does so well felt better after the Lanois set. Overall, maybe the biggest mistake was for a great small festival to book a larger than life artist like NY in the first place. Some people that bought tickets to a NY concert and not a roots-leaning music festival were just not going to be satisfied with anything other than NY. Maybe you don't need the huge headliner and the corresponding big ticket price because as an all-day family picnic/roots music festival this event is a winner that I will definitely attend again. .

Loved the front of house stage!

by kimbob on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Greenbelt was a good event. The location was beautiful and it was well organized. Although the tickets were pricey, it was a good event to support. It showcased some good local talent and raised awareness about how important it is to be aware of our food. We loved the front house stage that was set up show casing artists as the transition was happening on the main stage. Some of our favourite artists were on the front house stage. Of course we were disappointed that Neil had to cancel, but Gordon had a respectable performance for his age. We loved the Arkells. Great energy!! Bring them back!

    2013 Greedfest Harvest Picnic

by koki on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

My review, sadly, will not cover the music at this event because there was nothing or no-one at this event that I was interested in seeing/hearing. I had absolutely ZERO interest in the artists performing-I was forced to attend the event because I paid an ENORMOUS amount of $$$$ to do so and wasn't prepared to burn it. I purchased my tickets for my birthday gift to myself because I have always wanted to see Neil Young-LIVE. My parents were musicians-I was musical-I live for music-I grew up to Neil Young-among other great names in the industry-but I did not grow up to country music! Everyone knows by now, that this event did not include Neil Young and Crazy Horse-as advertised. This is the second time I have been shafted by purchasing over-priced tickets to an event and the headliner has cancelled. The first time-I received a FULL refund. Anyway, no disrespect to country music artists-but the music performed at the picnic was DEPRESSING! My husband and I had to drink a LOT of beer to keep ourselves amused (along with our newly found neighbours-who were in the same situation as us!) Thank goodness for the ARKELLS who SAVED THE DAY. If only for a half hour set. Next time maybe bring in Eric Clapton? Santana? Somebody UPBEAT!!!!! Anyway, I wish I could say that Gordon Lightfoot saved the day-he may have? I don't know because we left during Emmy-Lou Harris' performance. It was just too depressing, everyone looked as if they were going to fall asleep!!!!!! Yeah. The picnic was BORING!!!!!! Massively disappointed with the whole thing. I do not recommend anyone attend this event ever again.

    Awesome day of amazing music!

by kimette on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Exceeded my expectations!!! I was going mainly to see Daniel Lanois, as he is my favourite musician...but the whole day was epic!...Rocco Deluca is an amazing talent...and to see him share the stage live with Lanois! Harrison Kennedy, Whitehorse...Harlan Pepper, and Trixie Wheatley...incredible talent! Great weather, great location, great musicians...personally, didn't miss Neil Young & Crazyhorse, it gave Lanois more time onstage, and surprise guest musician....Martha Wainwright...just an unbelievable day! Emmylou Harris and the set by Canadian Icon...Gordon Lightfoot, was sweet...to hear those old hits, and to see the crowds give him ovations....just an epic day! and the sound was spectacular...for an outdoor event!

    gorgeous day

by KarenaM on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Even though Niel Young cancelled, and my heart was broken, I went anyway, expecting a "moderately good" time. I was blown away. it was a fantastic day, awesome vendors, and non-stop great tunes. I'm not a fan of big venues anymore, but this was entirely chill and fantastic.

    One Star is too much

by Crom on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation - Dundas

What a waste of time and money! The $10 parking fee should have been included for what we received for our money (even after refund). After enduring 5 hours during the afternoon, of "put us to sleep" music, we packed it in. The artisans were too few, the farmer's markets stall were very limited in variety, unless you were looking for garlic, and the food was mediocore Never again, regardless of who was headlining!

Greenbelt Harvest Picnic not worth the money.

by riddle on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Greenbelt Harvest Picnic was not worth the money we had to pay for the ticket. Will not be attending this event again. Even with the refund...it was only a picnic.!!! We will not be tricked again next year. We only bought the tickets to see Neil Young.

    Questionable

by TheIceman on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Although a partial refund was offered due to the unfortunate cancellation of Neil Young and Crazy Horse, with the exception of Gordon Lightfoot who gave a magical performance, I don't believe enough was done to justify the still expensive cost of tickets. $99 for a day long festival with Daniel Lanois as the headliner is not acceptable. I like Daniel Lanois, I think he is a great musician, but his song selection and attitude onstage were very self-serving. I have no problem with the other acts, The Arkells put on a great show as did Emmy Lou Harris. However in total I still feel that value was not served.

Big disappointment, too much money and no Neil Young. How many vendors do we need selling organic garlic? never again.

    I will return next year!!

by rainnot on 2013-09-03Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

I thought the talent was amazing! Emmylou was gracious and kind, Daniel was brilliant and a great host! The location was perfect for the talent with the main stage and front stage so well oiled they ran a smooth operations. The food venders food selection yummy and good prices and Steam Whistle was a good pairing. Thanks Daniel and the gang of people that made the day a success. We purchased some great CD as well. Until next year!
