    Hair was not bad

by Nature on 2009-07-13River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

I think the reason that I liked this musical was because I already knew it so well. The last time I watched Hair was on Broadway a little over 10 years ago so I can not really compare that rendition to this one. This was a college production so it was ok. The singing was amazing. There was some mic problems but over all the sound was good. The sets were .... well there were no sets LOL, the costumes were cute. The theater I really liked because no matter where you sit in there you have a great seat.

by fathorse on 2009-07-13River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

Ok the venue was great the sound was ok (a few glitches but hey it was the 60's) the voices were above average and 2 of them were superstars, the acting was fine and in some cases exceptional on a scale of 1 to 10 I would say a good solid,,,,, 8.5

    Hair.......AWESOME

by Rhiannon on 2009-07-13River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

After seeing hair in 1970 at the Shaftsbury in London, at age 16,I was hooked. I bought the album, had the poster and painted my own renditions. After moving to Canada and raising my daughters, I have now had the opportuinity to revisit my youth and share it with my youngest daughter. The show was brilliant, The actors brought back to life the era and realism of the changing world of the late 60's. There performances echoed the one that I had seen in London. There enthusiasm and amazing renditions of the songs and the creative interaction with the audience was excellent. I laughed, I sang, I felt the joy and I also felt the despair. If they had a second showing I would have gone to that as well. Thanks for letting me be part of the final song.....It made my night

    Hair was a "night out".

by islandgirl2 on 2009-07-12River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

The musical Hair was just that.....a night out, something different to do. I had expected a higher caliber of talent. I could pick out 2 or maybe 3 good voices. The fact that on more than a couple of occasions, the microphones weren't working, didn't help matters. The cast did show alot of energy and enthusiasm which was somewhat contagious at times. All in all, it was a night out but, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

    Hair not so good

by Teacher on 2009-07-12River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

I was disappointed. I was expecting a higher calibre of show at the Riverock. I thought it was going to be a professional production. The show had many faults. The sound system was bad. The mics didn't come on at times and many times you couldn't hear the dialouge. Only a couple of the cast members were in costume. The rest of the cast looked like they were there for a rehearsal. Only a couple of the dance routines were polished the rest looked like the cast were running around the stage with no plan or direction.

    HAIR

by LJJSJS on 2009-07-12River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

While the play was enjoyable along with great effort by cast, there was a feeling of being duped into thinking this was a professional show. Only as the play was about to start was it announced this was a Washington State University show, River Rock should be more clear in it's advertisements. Expectations are differerent when watching an amateur or professional show. The Mic / Sound problems were a constant problem in the show. Kudo's for the actors, they did the best with the time they had to prepare. ( it was discussed outside in the lobby only a month preparation.)

    Hair was forgettable

by Pinky on 2009-07-12River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

With everything from poor sound to poor sounding actors, this is the only theatre that I litterally couldn't wait until intermission to leave. I do hope for the sake of the kids that the second half was worth waiting for, as the first felt like being at a totally horrific dental appointment...you just pray to escape. I thought the ticket prices were low, and now I know why. This group could not pay me to sit through this very amature production of a good play. Both me and my partner were not feeling the loving. Too bad.

    hair

by kitkat on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

I attended the performance of Hair Friday night and was very disappointed. It seems as if I was not the only one, as much of the audience (including my friend and I) left at intermission. I have no quarrel with the performers, however River Rock should have stated that this was a university level performance. This was not stated on the advertisement. Therefore we were surprised at the quality of the show, when we were expecting a more polished and professional act.

    Hair

by Disappointed3 on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

Very poorly sung, danced and the timing was terrible. Just plain dull and listless. Plus we often couldn't hear the voices over the music.

It was simply wonderful, My husband and I thought it was as good or better than the original show that we saw so many years ago. Loved the extra routines that they put into the musical. The singing was outstanding. They sang better than some of the most popular musicals out there. I wish they were here 2 nights and would of told everyone we know to go to see it. Wish they sold Cd's of the show as would of bought one, even though we already have the original. Thankyou for a great performance you deserved the standing ovation.

    High Energy Performance! Amazing Cast!

by Canadabunny on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

I had a great time at HAIR the musical last night. The cast had such high energy you could feel it coming off the stage. I found the choreography quite exciting and creative and rather daring at times. The only reason I did not give this show a 5 star rating is due to sound issues. I'm not sure who was mixing the show but due to poor mics and bad timing it really took away from the performance. One girls mic didn't even work during her solo which was disappointing. Other than that though, the caliber of singers was just un-real. Such strong and soulful singers. A real pleasure to watch. I bought the tickets for my dad as a father's day present and he seemed very happy afterward. We were all humming the tunes on the way home. Great job to the cast and musicians! Bravo!

    There is room for improvement

by IGS28 on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

The story as we all know it is great. However, the sound was poor and some of the performers voices lacked of volume. There were not enough microphones for all of the performers so some times you could hear perfectly and sometimes nothing.

Tech was horrible, couldn't hear anything most of the time. Couldn't follow the story since we couldn't hear it . Only 2 strong voices in the show.

HAIR: Great - no. Good - yes.

by riverrockin on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

The actors portraying Berger and Claude were excellent and believable. Musicians did a great job. Some good laughs. What could've improved? Sound was poor at times, with extremes ranging from too quiet to too loud. At times you couldn't hear the main character over the music. The costumes were disappointing. A couple of the characters were believable (Berger and Claude), but most looked as though they just got on stage after picking up some groceries. Authentic representation? Not especially. For me it didn't capture the essence of the time where love was free, girls wore flowers in their hair and sex was a natural expression like smiling.

    Hair: The experience

by Bailey on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

As always the venue was great. The performers caputred the essence of the experience but were let down by the sound technicians. As the performers took their solos it seemed the tech did not know who was singing and the mic levels were so low that the band drowned out the vocals. This kept up till late in the second act, but even then the "on" switch seemed to elude whoever was in cahrge of making the singers audible.

    Hair

by Patti on 2009-07-11River Rock Show Theatre - Richmond

Did not feel it was of the calibre to be performing at the River Rock. Although the actors did an OK job, I feel it was not up to Show Lounge standards. It was like going to a high school play and I would not pay the money I did, to see it again.
