About

Hannah Gadsby has been a comedian for more than a decade but it was 2018 when the world took notice when their ground breaking comedy special launched on Netflix and stopped the comedy world in its tracks.

Nanette earned Hannah an Emmy, a Peabody, an Australian Academy Award, and the Most Outstanding Show awards at both the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, Hannah did two more solo stand-up comedy shows which toured the world - selling out houses across the USA, Australia and Europe, including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Festival Hall, the Kennedy Centre, the London Palladium and the Opera House at BAM.

Hannah's second Netflix special, Douglas launched in 2020, and their third, Something Special landed on Netflix May 2023. Douglas was nominated for an Emmy and won an Australian Academy Award as did Something Special.

In 2022, they also managed to publish their New York Times Best Selling memoir, Ten Steps To Nanette in more than ten languages, chatted with the likes of Colbert and Fallon and hosted a gala at the Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival.

Hannah also co-curated an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, taking part in the global celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Picasso's death featuring works from the Musée Picasso in Paris alongside those from the Brooklyn Museum's Feminist Art Collection.

Hannah's fourth special with Netflix was recorded in 2023 and launched in 2024, recorded in London, the Gender Agenda bought together gender queer comedians from around the world.

    Still laughing

by String Bean on 2022-06-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Enjoyable show with the ever funny & entertaining Hannah Gadsby! Gorgeous venue & although a long line up to get in, it moved quickly and efficiently. Only downside was sitting in upper balcony almost in the last row in a full house it was difficult to actually see Hannah on stage as so many heads in the way.

Hannah is so brilliant… her timing is out of this world … it made for an evening with belly ache at the end of so much deep laughing

    Bad visibility

by Back row on 2022-06-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I sat in the very back row, aisle seat, mid section. I had to stand the entire show (as much as I could) in order to see anything. I don’t know who decides where the act positions themselves on the stage but she was too close to the front of the stage to be seen over the heads of the audience in between my seat and the stage. If she had been even a half a meter further back from the front edge, it would have been better. Her act was good (closer to 4 or 5 stars) but the logistics were terrible and my back was killing me at the end of it.

    🤣

by Greenpants on 2022-06-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Super fun evening. A bit of a slow process getting the cell phones and other electronics on lockdown. Other than that, Hannah Gadsby put on a great show. Lots of laughs and a great crowd.

    Fun show. Adoring Crowd.

by Coco on 2022-06-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Enjoyed the show, though I liked her previous ones (Nanette and Douglas) better. The Orpheum is a physically beautiful venue, but it was absolutely freezing. I could hear people around me complaining about the cold air blowing.

    Enjoyable

Funny, smart, anti-vaccine and anti Taylor Swift. Her review of art history was hilarious. Glad I went and I now know what the pouch of Douglas is.

    Mixed Bag

by CritcalFan on 2020-03-03Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I have never been to a live comedy event for all of the reasons that Hannah Gadsby outlined in "Nanette" about punching down the people in the margins. After seeing "Nanette", I was beyond thrilled to see Hannah Gadsby live, and absolutely rattled when her opener made jokes about committing violence against disabled folks. I am trans myself and was at first so happy to see a trans comic on stage, but I was quickly devastated by jokes that make light of hate crimes. All of Hannah's set was absolutely incredible but it left me more confused about how much Hannah knew about her opener's violent jokes.

    A insightful performance by Hannah

by Cindy on 2020-03-02Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

I thought Hannah Gadsby was fantastic! I did not know a lot about her but someone recommended that I go see her show so I did. She was funny, insightful, genuine and true to herself - a wonderful performance. I have such respect for Hannah and the personal journey she shares with her audiences through the realm of comedy and a keen awareness of herself and what matters.

    Mediocre experience

by Chris L. on 2020-03-02Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

The show itself was excellent. My only compliant would be that we found out about the use of Yondr for the event 2 days prior and I likely would not have bought the tickets had I known in advance that it was being used. I don't appreciate being treated like a child which is what the system feels like to me.

    Amazing.

by Mandy on 2020-03-02Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

Despite the pressure of huge expectations of her audience coming in, Hannah Gadsby wove those expectation into another intelligently and mind-blowing social commentary piece. Laughing the whole time was merely the icing on a perfectly baked cake.

    Art and the like...

    by I. M. on 2020-03-01Roy Thomson Hall - Toronto

What a funny and talented person. I laughed whole heartedly for the first time in a long time. She has a delicious knack for observation of the human condition. The rage that she and many women feel about society is wryly on display. And Donatello... seriously!
