About

HARRY CONNICK, JR.

Harry Connick, Jr.’s career has exemplified excellence across multiple platforms in the entertainment world over the past three decades. He has received Grammy and Emmy awards as well as Tony nominations for his live and recorded musical performances, his achievements in film and television and his appearances on Broadway as both an actor and a composer. Connick continues to establish himself as a best-selling musician, singer, composer, and a legendary live performer with millions of recordings sold around the world.

The foundation of Connick’s art is the music of his native New Orleans, where he began performing as a pianist and vocalist at the age of five.  Highlights of his music career include several multi-platinum recordings such as “When Harry Met Sally,” “Blue Light, Red Light (Someone’s There)”, “When My Heart Finds Christmas,” “Come By Me, and “Only You.”  His debut album on legendary Verve Records, his new label home, titled True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter was released in 2019 and which coincided with performances on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre in a show he wrote and directed:  Harry Connick, Jr.- A Celebration of Cole Porter honoring the musical achievements of one of America’s most respected songwriters, Cole Porter.  In 2020 as the country entered the pandemic lockdown, he retreated to his home studio and emerged with an album of songs of faith and inspiration.  ALONE WITH MY FAITH, released during the spring of 2021 displays the sheer breadth of Connick’s talents as he wrote new songs, arranged all songs, played every instrument, and sang every voice.

Connick has appeared in 20 feature films with actors such as Sandra Bullock, Hilary Swank, Renée Zellweger, Sigourney Weaver, and Morgan Freeman.  His work on television includes starring roles on Will and Grace, South Pacific and American Idol.  He recently hosted the CBS Special UNITED WE SING: A GRAMMY® TRIBUTE TO THE UNSUNG HEROES, honoring essential workers in the pandemic.  In 2016, he launched Harry, a national daytime television show, which earned 11 Daytime Emmy nominations, including nominations for best host, and a Critics’ Choice nomination for best talk show.  On Broadway, Connick received Tony nominations as both a lead actor in The Pajama Game and as a composer/lyricist for Thou Shalt Not.

Despite his busy career, Connick has always found the time to be charitable and has done some of his most important work in his efforts to help New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. He, along with friend Branford Marsalis, conceived of “Musicians’ Village,” and its centerpiece the Ellis Marsalis Center.  Musicians’ Village provides homes for Katrina-displaced musicians while the Center uses music as its focal point of a holistic strategy to deliver a broad range of services to underserved children, youth and musicians from neighborhoods battling poverty and social injustice.

Connick’s honors, including a star on the celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of the 2019 class of Honorees, induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame, Honorary Doctorates from Tulane and Loyola Universities and the Jefferson Award for Public Service, have not led Harry Connick, Jr. to slow his creative pace; they only confirm his determination to apply his talents in ways that prove inspirational to other artists and publicly spirited citizens.

    HCJ was fantastic!

by girliefrank on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Over the years I've had an on again, off again love affair with HCJ's music. Don't get me wrong - always a fan, but once I moved out of the house, I didn't have my own HCJ music. I took my mum to this concert has a birthday present and all I have to say is, WOW! The man can perform...even while rocking his "moon boot" (walking cast). He is talented, funny and entertaining and I truly can't wait until he comes to town again.

    Harry was exceptional!!!!

by HarrysFan on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

While this review may be a bit biased, since I have been a huge fan of Harry's since about 1993, I can say that this show was wonderful!! He is not only just a great singer, but he is very funny and charismatic as well. He tells great jokes, pokes fun at the audience and his band, and knows how to keep the show moving along. While I am sure every seat in Queen Elizabeth Theatre is great, we were sitting in the front row - which only made my crush on him get a little bigger :-) He was so great, and such a trooper, with his injured leg. He came out at the end of the show and signed autographs - I will keep mine forever.

by Coastal on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I have seen many big name acts in my life. One of the best examples of an artist who is not only incredibly talented yet can have such a personable rapport with his audience. Very Charming entertainer!

    For Uber fans Only...

by StudioJude on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I had been looking forward to this show for quite awhile but was underwhelmed. Although the musicians were obviously very talented, the show felt " phoned in" to me. Harry's a funny guy and with his leg in an aircat it couldn't have been easy but I got the feeling he just wanted the night to be over. Wouldn't see the show again.

    What a treat

by Consistent on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This guy is amazing. He writes, he sings, he plays, he arranges, and he's personable. Never seen anyone so passionate about what he does, and it shows. One of my favourite parts of any concert is the talk; you want to get to know the performer as well, and he is the best I have seen. Never seen anyone play the piano like he does and in so many different genres. Didn't know he played the trumpet so well, either. I have seen him twice, now, and would see again and again. Truly and amazing talent.

    Wild about Harry!

by Connickholic on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Harry Connick Jr. is the ultimate showman. He doesn`t just sing songs that we know and love, he showcases his band, and tells stories that draw you into his world. He engages the audience with everything he has. I told my hubby, I like to go to listen to his stories and the music is great in between! :) The ONLY downside was the 2 ladies behind us who continued to kick our seats - wah! Other than that, a truly terrific night - thank you Harry - AGAIN!

    Absolutely delightful!

by katybee on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We found Harry to be absolutely delightful. He is such a natural and charismatic performer. We had some insight into his personality when he mentored the young singers on American Idol. In fact, it was because of that show that we chose to see him in Vancouver. And we weren't disappointed. Sitting in the 3rd row, we felt like we were being entertained by an old friend. Thanks Harry. We look forward to seeing you again soon :-)

    Harry Connick Jr was great!

by BacardiRob on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Enjoyed the performance. Really liked the big band sound and that Harry Connick was willing to share the individual limelight with his band members. He made it an opportunity for the audience to experience the New Orleans sound. The night just flew by as he covered old standards and newer plays. That Harry Connick can sure play a piano like nobody else! . We appreciated the warm down home personal anecdotes as he told his humoures take on his life and show. Interesting the wide age range of audience he appeals to. Just an all round great night and I hope he comes back.

    Good but...

by Jackmandu on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was unfortunate that Harry had injured his leg. This inhibited his stage performance and he even made jokes to the effect that his medication was causing some problems for him. Still, his music was great and the soloists were awesome.

    Harry was Awesome

by mooselebo on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The banter between songs was as entertaining as the actual music. I was thoroughly entertained. While I expected to hear lots of his "crooner" type renditions of standards delivered professionally(they were), I was really excited to hear the New Orleans style songs he ran out for us. His inclusion of the older NO trombone player was classy and VERY enjoyable. The only part of the evening that was a bit less than was due to some conflict between two guys sitting on opposite sides of our aisle(about row 10)...they were nattering at each other and the usher had to intervene. Who would have thought a scrap could almost break our at a Harry concert? WHODAT??

    Helluva Show, Harry!

by BRG47 on 2010-07-27Neil Simon Theatre - New York

Having only one night in NYC, we made sure to attend Harry Connick's concert and we couldn't have been more delighted! In addition to hearing superb music from a multi-talented man in a full-sized Broadway theatre, we were most impressed with how intimate an experience he made the evening .

Harry Connick is an amazing musician all around!

by Linty on 2010-07-26Neil Simon Theatre - New York

This was an unforgettable event. Not only were we in a beautiful venue, The Neil Simon Theater on Broadway, but everything about the night was amazing. For the first half of the show, Harry sang all of his ballads and swing tunes. His big band was incredible. For having only 2 horns in each section (trumpet, t-bone, saxophone), they had such HUGE sound. I love the touch of the small string orchestra as well. And of course, Harry is such an incredible musician. He is one of those rare musicians that truly knows his art form inside and out. He can do it all, and he does it well. He sings, he plays piano, he plays trumpet (which I never knew!), and he can dance. (He did a wonderful booty shake which all of the women in the audience loved!) And I'm sure he can do more. He has great stage presence and he knows how to entertain and banter with the audience. You can tell he truly loves what he is doing. My favorite part of the show was the second act where he brought out his trombone player. They looked like they were having so much fun together and the band members seemed like they were having so much fun just playing the Dixie style and improvising. I would definitely see Harry again and I would highly recommend that everyone should go see him. He seems like a down to earth, kind and caring person. He even brought his daughter out on stage and it is obvious how proud he is of his family. Great show! It made my trip to New York unforgettable! The thing that would have made the night perfect was if he was signing autographs!

Harry Connick - New Orleans Music Guru

by JenniferLayne on 2010-07-22Neil Simon Theatre - New York

I have never missed a Harry Connick, Jr. concert in 20 years. He is my music guru. As a musician myself, thanks to his unknowing tutelage, I was devastated when I found I would be on tour during his visit to my current city of Toronto. I tried Ticketmaster for New York's Neil Simon Theatre. I pulled up front row centre. Not only did Harry deliver, yet again, an astounding performance full of charisma, not only was his singing and playing fantastic, not only were his arrangements that he wrote for his entire orchestra beyond most people's comprehension of genius, not only did he play songs like "Hear Me In The Harmony" dedicated to his own music guru, James Booker, that brought me to tears, but his legendary trombonist, Lucien Barbarain, pulled me to the stage when Lucien serenaded me with a solo. The music in me couldn't help but make me sing back to him. Lucien liked it enough, he pulled me to center stage and we finished the song as a duet. Harry loved it. This was a dream come true 20 years in the making. I'm hoping I'll be able to sing with Harry one day and share with him the music I've been creating these 20 years thanks to his inspiration.
