About

HARRY CONNICK, JR.

Harry Connick, Jr.’s career has exemplified excellence across multiple platforms in the entertainment world over the past three decades. He has received Grammy and Emmy awards as well as Tony nominations for his live and recorded musical performances, his achievements in film and television and his appearances on Broadway as both an actor and a composer. Connick continues to establish himself as a best-selling musician, singer, composer, and a legendary live performer with millions of recordings sold around the world.

The foundation of Connick’s art is the music of his native New Orleans, where he began performing as a pianist and vocalist at the age of five.  Highlights of his music career include several multi-platinum recordings such as “When Harry Met Sally,” “Blue Light, Red Light (Someone’s There)”, “When My Heart Finds Christmas,” “Come By Me, and “Only You.”  His debut album on legendary Verve Records, his new label home, titled True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter was released in 2019 and which coincided with performances on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre in a show he wrote and directed:  Harry Connick, Jr.- A Celebration of Cole Porter honoring the musical achievements of one of America’s most respected songwriters, Cole Porter.  In 2020 as the country entered the pandemic lockdown, he retreated to his home studio and emerged with an album of songs of faith and inspiration.  ALONE WITH MY FAITH, released during the spring of 2021 displays the sheer breadth of Connick’s talents as he wrote new songs, arranged all songs, played every instrument, and sang every voice.

Connick has appeared in 20 feature films with actors such as Sandra Bullock, Hilary Swank, Renée Zellweger, Sigourney Weaver, and Morgan Freeman.  His work on television includes starring roles on Will and Grace, South Pacific and American Idol.  He recently hosted the CBS Special UNITED WE SING: A GRAMMY® TRIBUTE TO THE UNSUNG HEROES, honoring essential workers in the pandemic.  In 2016, he launched Harry, a national daytime television show, which earned 11 Daytime Emmy nominations, including nominations for best host, and a Critics’ Choice nomination for best talk show.  On Broadway, Connick received Tony nominations as both a lead actor in The Pajama Game and as a composer/lyricist for Thou Shalt Not.

Despite his busy career, Connick has always found the time to be charitable and has done some of his most important work in his efforts to help New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. He, along with friend Branford Marsalis, conceived of “Musicians’ Village,” and its centerpiece the Ellis Marsalis Center.  Musicians’ Village provides homes for Katrina-displaced musicians while the Center uses music as its focal point of a holistic strategy to deliver a broad range of services to underserved children, youth and musicians from neighborhoods battling poverty and social injustice.

Connick’s honors, including a star on the celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of the 2019 class of Honorees, induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame, Honorary Doctorates from Tulane and Loyola Universities and the Jefferson Award for Public Service, have not led Harry Connick, Jr. to slow his creative pace; they only confirm his determination to apply his talents in ways that prove inspirational to other artists and publicly spirited citizens.

    Harry Connick a true performer

by StevieBoyToronto on 2011-04-29Colonial Theatre - Boston

Show started right on the button was a little sleepy in the first half and then revved up after intermission. Harry is a true performer in every sense of the word including his between song banter. I would definitely see him again.

    Great show

by Dresscircle on 2010-10-02Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Harry opened with some solid crooning to warm the crowd up but the last 2/3 of the show was top notch entertainement. A mix of blues and Louisianna jazz that takes you on a trip you do not want to end. I look for two things in a show, one, an enteratiner that works hard and two, an entertainer that is having fun. Harry and his band covered both. The solid horn section was top notch. The solo sax player gets better and better withnthe show. He is so into his gig you think he is going to walk off the stage. I have never seen a trombone player like the feature performer in the second half. Pure fun and entertainment. Would go again in a moment.

Harry Connick and that amazing voice

by covermeband on 2010-10-02Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Great show, but the first 3/4 of the show was pretty much crooning (which he does so well). Personally I loved the last 1/4 when he really kicked it up with his guest trombone player Lucian (spelling?) and really rocked the place.

    Harry was amazing!

by adequatemother on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I will see Harry Connick Jr every time he comes to Vancouver. The music was a mix from the past, the present, and a New Orleans mardi gras party. He was hot, hilarious... and a voice like a god. Don't miss it. Even my husband enjoyed it. A lot.

    What an Artist!

by Bigkid99 on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Even with an injury and his foot in an air cast, he delivers! I have been going to his concerts for 20 years and it's always a joy. Many have copied him but only he is far and beyond superior to the copycats. Where others have copied his style of singing, they cannot hope to match his ability to write, arrange and play the music so beautifully. Truly an artist.

Harry gets better with age. The guy is a musical genius. He did the concert with a leg cast (tore his calf muscle earlier this week) and it did not affect his performance one bit. We also had the privilege of meeting him after the concert in an autograph signing session. Still a cool and funny guy.

    Favorite concert by far!!!

by TLCF on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Harry Connick Jr. was an amazing and unforgettable concert. Loved the whole show. He is a great performer and loved listening to his hilarious stories (that was a fun part of the show). Not only is his singing fantastic to listen to but his talent on the piano and the way he interacts with his band is all enjoyable to see. Would definitely love to see him perform again. You definitely leave the concert with a great big smile on your face because he is so much fun to see and you know that you truly had seen a man with so much talent and so much to offer.

    A Dynamic Performance

by FGReview on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Despite being injured and having to wear a leg brace, Harry Connick Jr. gave a dynamic performance. He dazzled the audience with a wide variety of vocal selections. His exceptional talent as a pianist had the audience frantic for more. Connick finished up with a duet - he played the trumpet along with a well-known musician who played the trombone. The only minor criticism would be that Connick perhaps played a bit too many New Orleans-style jazz pieces. In all though, a spellbinding concert.

    A Dynamic Performance

by FGReview on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Despite an injury necessitating a leg brace , Harry Connick Jr. did not fail to wow the audience in a spectacular performance. He sang a variety of popular tunes and flaunted his expertise on the piano. He also played the trumpet along with a fellow jazz musician who played the trombone. The concert was top-notch but possibly leaned a bit too heavily on New Orleans-style jazz selections. A wonderful experience nevertheless.

    Cool stylings

by Dawgg on 2010-09-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Harry has a beautiful stage presence, he brings a top notch band , 14 in all , and a 15 th at times. The trombone dude who shared the stage with harry the last half of the show. what was that dude's name? Harry plays homage to the old masters and brings new light and energy to this revered genre of music. Slow and soulful, crackerjack uptempo, Harry will always make you smile.

It's so hard to believe that a person could be so multi-talented - fabulous voice, piano and trumpet. His band incredible and his guest was amazing. The show had it all, comedy and great entertainment. My only flaw was that I was too far away and couldn't see his face and lost a lot of his comments. If I ever went to see him again I would pay the extra and sit closer on the floor. Lovely venue.

    Harry did himself proud

by Anonymous on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Even with a cast on his leg Harry was able to pull off a great show! To be honest when the curtain came down at the end of the show I thought the show was short, but a glance at my watch, two hours had passed, wow it went by fast. If there was one thing I could have it would be perhaps another two hours of his music, especially the high energy numbers! Overall a very good show, highly recommended!

    Who Dat Harry?!

by discerning on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Incredible!!!!!! Would go again in a heartbeat. The venue added to the spectacular show: not a bad seat in the place (view-wise at least: the seats up in the balcony are shockingly small). He's hilarious too - loved his banter.

    Excellent Show

by jack0latern on 2010-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Harry put on an amazing show! I forgot not only how talented he is but what a great sense of humour he has! He played for 2 hours with only a less than 5 min break between the end of the show and his encore and it was FABULOUS! The QE theatre was the ideal setting for his amazing show! I look forward to seeing him again soon!
