Great cast, great story, great play. Everything seems so magical. The only thing the theatre was so cold on the first part... bit nothing to do woth the play itself! Bring a hoodie :)
Loved this production! So many surprises and the magic was amazing. I didn’t appreciate that people were allowed to be seated after the show started. The entire row in front of us had to stand for a latecomer to be seated and we weren’t able to see anything or hear the dialogue with all the commotion. When I asked the usher not to seat anymore people but to wait until intermission I was told that they can’t so that.
The show was so much more than I expected! I felt like I was in a movie the whole time!
Great show. Extremely well produced. Reminded me of the joy and many hours that were shared reading the books and listening to the audio version as a family at home and during road trips.
This show is unbelievable. The special effects alone are worth seeing, not to mention the incredible cast and the fantastic stage direction/writing.
The play is absolutely incredible. I heard mixed things when the script was initially released in 2016 so I was wary at first, especially of spending so much money to see the play. I decided not to read the script and see the play as it was intended to be seen; on stage. I highly recommend this approach, if you haven’t read the script yet, DON’T. I believe you will appreciate the play much more for it. The cast, special effects, costumes and sound design are incredible. There are things that happen on stage that are truly mind-boggling. The cast has great chemistry and bring their own unique flavour to characters we know so well. Special shoutout to Jamie Parker as Harry and Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy. As for the story....my feelings are mixed. As a hardcore Harry Potter fan, I have to admit that the story is possibly the weakest part of the play. The thing to keep in mind is that theatre is a different medium, and the story needs to be tailored to fit that medium, and they did a good (not great) job of doing that. The rest of the play surrounding the story is so good that any issues with the story, especially as it relates to the wider Potter canon, get swept aside in the moment. You simply enjoy the adventure that you’re on as it’s unfolding in front of you. The heart of the series is still there, even if the execution of the plot isn’t as refined as the book series (but once again, different medium). I need to also mention the wonderful job they with the Lyric theatre, and the staff that keeps everything running smoothly. Everyone is enthusiastic and friendly and seems almost excited as the audience to be there. I urge every Potterhead to go see the show. Ultimately I don’t consider the story as part of the canon, however the play itself is a fantastic experience that you will not regret. There’s almost a palpable electricity in the air, and for a small slice of 5 hours you’re transported out of your own life into another experience entirely. Upon leaving the theatre I was amazed that they managed to pull it off and create something truly magical.
In a live setting with Broadway theatre magic happening, the Harry Potter team took what was an ok read on paper to be a magical night. Right from the theatre lobby it was evident that the production team had dealt with almost every detail. Even sitting in the back corner of the rear mezzanine I never felt like I'd missed anything and the sound amplification was masterfully done. The only bit of a downside was despite the announcements that we were in the "quiet zone" the theatre was selling popcorn in crinkly cellophane bags which were frustratingly loud around the theatre. Otherwise it was a great night!
AMAZING!!! The staging and cast were incredible. #KeepTheSecrets
We travelled from Vancouver, BC to New York City to see this play and it was unbelievable! The special effects, the storyline, the actors, the theater-they all make the show a once in a lifetime event! If you think it will tour to your city-not happening! You will have to travel to it! We sat in the orchestra, so I can't speak to the further removed seats, but I would have to say that closer would be better....if you can! Can't give too much away #keepthesecret, but you will love Albus and Scorpius and feel the angst of growing up under their family names.
