About

Hatsune Miku is a music software developed by Crypton Future Media, INC., which enables anyone to make their computer sing by entering lyrics and melodies. As a massive number of users created music using the software and posted their works on the Internet, Hatsune Miku quickly evolved into a cultural phenomenon. Since then, Hatsune Miku has gained much attention as a character, involved in many fields such as merchandising and live performance as a virtual singer. Now her popularity has spread across the globe.

    Enjoyable but poorly thought-out set

by Moofey on 2024-04-07UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

This is based on me attending the Vancouver show; The first in the tour, having never gone to a show like this before but with knowledge on how previous North American tours have turned out. Me attending a Miku Expo concert was a long time coming given that I'm an OG Miku/VOCALOID follower, and while the concert was fun and enjoyable, the presentation didn't live up to the expectation of many people that went in with expectations with how each of the characters would be portrayed and projected on-stage. Whereas previous concerts would have models of the six featured characters projected onto a glass screen on-stage, those that attended the two shows that have been performed so far on this tour as of this review were presented with an LED screen instead. The screen itself isn't the dealbreaker that many people say it is, as it presents an opportunity for slightly wider viewing angles, crisper images and less interference from other light sources, but what ruined the immersion and the illusion of a CGI character running across the stage was that they made no attempt to blend the screen into the set, mostly by designing a set that indiscriminately shone lights at, behind, or around it, making it feel less like a concert and more like a glorified Hatsune Miku YouTube watch party with live music. The set designers made no attempt to emulate the illusion seen at past concerts, including recent ones overseas that had been run with LED screens itself. The size of the screen becomes an issue, too, as it seems that the screen they are using will be the same size whether it be some of the very small venues this tour will be playing at in Texas, to the full-size NHL arena that they'll be playing in when they reach Jersey. Aside from that, the live renditions of songs from the 15 or so artists that had their music featured in this show were well thought out and the band looked like they were enjoying themselves as well. The show wasn't a write-off all because of the poorly thought-out set; Hearing many popular songs over the years performed live is a draw in itself, but many die-hard Miku/VOCALOID fans are going to be extremely disappointed in just how poorly integrated their favorite characters are within this set.

    Amazing!!

    by Josh Erickson on 2024-04-07

I got myself and my girlfriend tickets to the show in Vancouver and it was absolutely worth the trip from Alberta. It was both of ours first vocaloid concert, every video that you see online is nothing compared to actually being there. The crowds energy and the community all interacting is amazing. Even though it was just a screen with the characters moving, when you watch them move it’s very easily to completely believe that it’s a hologram, the flashing lights help make the obvious screen boarders less obvious and help hide them. The band was amazing and you could tell that they were all just having an absolute blast! 100/10, would absolutely recommend and will fly out again!

A memorable concert! World is hers🩵

    by Sunnie on 2024-04-05

Though Hatsune Miku may just be a digital character to some, she sparked such a great energy in the crowd! I loved how they shone the spotlight onto individual band members during the show, their live playing was superb and they hyped up the audience! I’m also so glad to see other Vocaloids have their time to shine, like Meiko and Kaito! However, I do wish there was more of Luka Megurine since she only had two songs and didn’t appear for a long time, the crowd was anticipating her! Overall, an amazing concert experience! The lights show, the animations, the live playing, the glowsticks, and the audience made for a beautiful Vocaloid concert experience. World is hers!🩵

CANT WAIT TO GO TO MIKU EXPO TORONTO. Anyone saying miku isn’t real and that they play other peoples’ music obviously don’t know that that’s not the important part… anyway I’ll see you all at miku expo next year‼️‼️‼️

    SHE IS LITERALLY FAKE

    by clairebear1 on 2023-09-27

i thought miku was literally real and it was some stupid hologram with a fake voice that kept lagging and glitching at H-E-B. the internet sucked and she literally powered off for 40 minutes since her pixel hologram "needed a break"they put other peoples music and it was so embarrassing. please dont go to this concert, not to mention her tickets are selling for THOUSANDS of dollars... she is literally fake.

    So much awesome

by Shelliac on 2016-06-03Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The concert was amazing! I have been hoping for a Hatsune Miku concert to come to North America for quite some time now, and it did not disappoint. The visuals were crisp and smooth, the 3d rendered holograms were beautiful to see.

    Unforgettable concert

by Kila on 2016-05-23Sony Centre of Performing Arts - Toronto

Discovered Hatsune Miku in 2007 with Perfume thanks to MMD on YT. It was also my first time at a local convention called "Otakuthon". She performed some well know songs that are still popular and some are different version of what I've heard on the internet. Other members were performing such as the twins, Kaito, Meiko and Luka but no other official as IA. For 174CAD, you get a limited watch in a color of Miku bag as a VIP holder. An encore was asked and more than 1song was played! However he internet network really suck as hell even it was free. Miku made me really cry at her last song with the piano but I'm so happy to came at her first concert of my life. I remember that I saw her at the Lantis Festival World Tour in Las Vegas. It is so unfortunate I can't see her face very well because of my seat chosen

    Awesome concert

by Kila on 2016-05-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Discover Miku back in 2007 with Perfume by MMD and it was the first time I went to Otakuthon. I can't believe I finally met her again at her concert. I first see her live in Lantis Festival World Tour. But now I saw her other family member as the twins, Meiko, Kaito and Luka. They played songs I already heard but some are different version of what I've seen on YT. We didn't see other official Vocaloid like IA unfortunately. For VIP you get a limited watch in a bag. The internet network is really bad by the way. An encore was asked and they've played more than one song!! I am so happy to came and Miku made me cry at her last song with the piano

by Theletsjoker on 2016-05-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

When Miku came on, it was so hype that I couldn't help but cheer. Miku is love, Miku is life. Also her first time in Toronto, so it was pretty worth xd. Pretty cheesed that she didn't do sweet devil, but whatever; the concert was great nonetheless.

Best Experience of My Miku Fan Life!!

by KeybladeCharge on 2016-05-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Miku-Expo was amazing!! By far the best experience of my life, there were cosplayers (such as myself), fun and friendly fans, exclusive merch and much more. I've waited years for Miku and the Vocaloids to come to Canada and it was worth the wait. Even if your not a Miku fan the technology and the fans are a must see and is just so amazing. ANAMANAGUCHI was also amazing a well fit opener for Miku and her friends. I was excepting more for the Expo part and was a little disappointed that Kaito and Meiko only got one song and were song songs I really wanted to hear tht weren't performed but all and all still the best expireance of my life. Love you, Miku!!

    Once in a lifetime!

by Utau on 2016-05-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I can't even begin to explain this experience as a huge fan of VOCALOID. I would honestly spend so much money in the future to get a front row seat to another one of these concerts. The only down side to the concert was that everyone ended up standing up at the beginning of the concert because they were all so excited and then they never sat down. If i was shorter than 5"5' then I wouldn't have been able to see over all the people in front of me who were standing.... this is another reason why closer seats would have been preferable, but alas, it was a very full concert when I bought the tickets.

Miku Expo Toronto - Pure Magic! :)

by ToronTotoro on 2016-05-23Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Hatsune Miku, whose name means "The First Sound of the Future", along with the rest of the Crypton family of Vocaloids performed for an ecstatic Sold-Out crowd this past Friday, and to a person, every individual in Toronto's Sony Centre had an *amazing* time. :) For those not familiar with Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid, at her most basic, she's a computer generated, three dimensional avatar who sings and dances to the songs created for her by quite literally *thousands* of amateur and professional musicians from around the globe. But really, she's so much more than that. :) She's been around since 2007 and since her arrival on the music scene, has performed thousands of songs which have been viewed by millions of people around the world. She's also been performing "live" concerts since 2009, brought to brilliant and amazing life thanks to some pretty impressive projection technology, always supported by a kick-ass live band. Miku's repertoire includes virtually every genre of music because anyone who can buy her software can create with her, but her live shows tend to fall mostly within the Rock and Pop genres, and Friday's show was no exception, including fan favourites, "World is Mine", "Last Night, Good Night" and "Tell Your World" among the more than twenty songs performed, and as a long time fan, I'd have to say she, along with the rest of the Crypton Six and the brilliant live-band knocked it out of the park from start to finish. The energy level in the Sony Centre was off the chart the entire night, and by the time the show was over, my wife and I were pretty much spent, but *extremely* satisfied. :) To anyone who's the slightest bit curious about what the future of music might hold, I'd highly recommend taking a Vocaloid concert. The visual technology used to bring the electronic performers to life is incredible, and within the first few minutes it's easy, almost a given, to forget that you're not seeing a living and breathing person on stage. The music itself is upbeat and infectious, and the crowd is almost uniformly likewise. Vocaloid fans aren't an "in your face" or aggressive lot, but their passion and enthusiasm is undeniable, which makes these concerts as family friendly as they are engaging. This was my third live Vocaloid show, but it certainly won't be my last. :)
