    Matt and the boys gave 100% from start to finish! Could not possibly find fault with their performance. Everything I had hoped they would be live! Essentially non stop audio assault from beginning to end by the masters of the genre! Cannot recommend highly enough! Venue was peefect IMO, was able to get close to the band as I had hoped. Volume was as overwhelming as it should be for their music, (I might recommend hearing protection which I had not anticipated on, sounds a bit lame but it was intense, but soooo good!). Great guys, great energy, absolutely one of the best shows I've seen. Bucketlist show!

    What a show. Pike, Matz, and Kensel are unlike anything else on the go right now. Jeff Matz does the John Paul Jones thing on bass, meaning he's sneakily fantastic without calling attention to himself and sumultaneously making the others better. Des Kensel is probably the most underrated drummer out there. His thunderous, galloping style is awe-inspiring to see live. His combination of dynamics, speed and power are such a rarity in an era where speed alone seems to be what people appreciate (heavy gating and compression are ruining drumming). Finally, Matt Pike. He's always been amazing, but sobriety definitely has taken him to the next level. His playing is more precise and fluid, while his singing is spot-on. Together, this three-piece are unstoppable. Just incredible.

    I was a bit skeptical of a metal show at Venue, as they can't seem to do loudness very well. When I arrived, Goatwhore were locked in and brutal and were sounding decent, so I was relieved. But when High on Fire started up, it was all over the place, some sings sounding pretty good and others ranged from reedy and thin to a wall of mush. Again, the band was fun to watch and were into it, but the venue wasn't able to corral their insane punishing sound and deliver it.
